I don't think it is porn either (and I am 100% in support of porn). But the OPs idea that it is "close to porn" is pretty accurate.

That said, many of them are NOT children (US team has a 25 year old). Many people get, um, excited by movements just like the gymnysts make if it was done in any other context. And their outfits couldn't be any more revealing.

You try getting over those parallel bars with your legs crossed. Is the pole vault pornographical because they thrust their pelvises?

Yes you have to do that to perform the gymnastics move. However, the fact that it is necessary doesn't make it erotic to some. Covering the legs wouldn't help the problem. Thicker underwear maybe. That particular shot doesn't show much detail, but others I've seen don't leave much to the imagination. I can't count how many people who've told me they'd love to see a woman in that pose...

yeah i guess some sick people would get off on that. I guess i missed it because NOBODY here could do have the stuff they do and still be able to walk.

I guess i just understood the skill and strengh that they need to be able to pull off some of the moves. But hey if watching a clothed person do those moves gets you off welll good for you.

Like I said above, I believe it is NOT porn. Some people have a hard time reading. But it is just a small smidgen away from what the most sexually conservative would call porn. I am not one of them, and I disagree with them.

But again, just because it is required to have them spread eagle doesn't mean it won't excite some viewers. It is the tight spandex that often doesn't sit where it should combined with the positions that some people like too much. Search around enough for pictures and you'll see "stuff" sticking out when the spandex moves a bit to the side.

Also you haven't talked about the floor routines and their movements - those aren't required to be just like strippers.

I've said enough, and I'm out of this thread. Gymnastics is a beautiful art form and a very difficult sport. I admire the atheletes a lot. I certainly cannot do what they do. It is NOT porn, but it is one tiny piece of spandex away. Which is what the original poster said (not porn, but close).

geez. i watch to see how they perform. apparently others have a stick up their behind and think "OMG GIRLS IN SPANDEX PRON PRON PRON ALERT HIDE THE CHILDREN" when others bring their kids out to inspire them and creating gymnasts of the future.

most of my time was spent watching going "that's not a full handstand, that's past vertical, that's a drastic step on the landing, that wasn't connected" etc etc. so pervs of the world back off.

Dominique Dawes was about 16 when she was in the Olympics, if I remember correctly. Many of the top female gymnasts in the past twenty years have been in their early to mid-teens when they enter the competition. Talk about pressure.
