Won't POST.. stumped!

I've been having some problems getting my new systems (yes, that was plural) to POST. Let me first explain what had happened so far.
I purchased a P4 3.0E and a MSI PT880 mobo back in August along with some OCZ 3200 RAM. I put the system together, tried booting it with just the mobo/cpu/ram/vid card before connecting anything else, and it wouldn't POST. I tried everything I could think of, including resetting CMOS, but still couldn't even get a beep. I figured the mobo was DOA, so I sent it in for RMA. I also had them flash the bios since I'd read some versions of that board needed the newer bios to work with Prescott. Got it back, same problem. In the mean time, I had purchased one of those SOYO Dragon 2 mobos that were free on newegg after rebate. I decided to see if the CPU would POST on it. Same problem.

After this, I said the heck with it and set it aside until about a month ago, where I finally decided to try to get the system up. I figured the CPU must be the problem since both other motherboards wouldn't POST, even after RMA. I sent it in to Intel and they shipped me a brand new one. Same problem. I was REALLY getting aggravated at this point, so I took my cpu/mobo to work, where I could test out other CPUs to find out what the problem was. I could not get either motherboard to POST even with CPUs that I knew were good. I tried different sticks of RAM, different video cards, even different PSUs. No luck. I did confirm that the CPU was not the problem, as it would POST in one of the systems at work.

Since neither mobo would POST with any combination I had tried, I decided I'd just had really bad luck and ordered a new mobo, an ASUS P4P800SE. Got the mobo, installed it (being EXTRA careful). STILL NO POST. Tried different video cards, ram, etc.. all to no avail.

At this point I got REALLY aggravated and decided to say screw Intel, I'd just order a new A64 system and sell the P4. Athlons are faster, anyhow.

So I got a A64 3200+ and A8V-Deluxe. Received the parts, set it up, confident it would work. NOPE! ARGHHH!!! Once again, tried everything I could think of to make it work (different video cards, ram, resetting CMOS..) and it simply will not POST.

I'm really baffled as to what could be the problem. I've put so much money into getting a new system up and going and I'm STILL on my old Athlon XP 2400 system. I know the RAM and video card and PSU are good, I'm using them on the system this post was typed on. I really, really don't think it's anything I'm doing wrong. I've built dozens of systems over the years and I've worked as a tech repair guy for several years. I've triple checked everything I've been doing and I'm just baffled. Any ideas?

well you are either

a. the unluckiest person in the world.... ever!

or

b. making some fundamental error during the installation

when you power up the system, do the fans spin? have you installed the 4 pin auxilliary power connector to the motherboard? have you tried the motherboards out of the case (on say a piece of cardboard)? do you get video with these messages about cpu failure? can you get into the bios setup screen?

That's really whacked - I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt since you've built quite a few systems and are also a technician, by that I mean I bet you've already tried everything I can recommend.

The only pesky POST system I had was on an Asus A7N8X (plain) - it would only POST maybe 1/10 times, so I just stopped shutting it down. The problem was remedied by replacing the mobo though - something you have already tried several times.

I guess all you can do is try to continue to troubleshoot every component. You've tried everything I can think of... could there be a short somewhere? Try rebuilding using the felt washers - I doubt it would be that though. Man... good luck.
