Got some dealage going on here. Picked up 3 of those cheap dell 800s(2 will be cracking intermittently RC5 once I have a chance to install the clients) with the 3 year on-site parts and labor for 435 each! Got a Virgin Web player that needs a session with the i-opener laptop drive to DOC it(My TOS was ripped up!). Got a PS2!!! Got 36 bux worth of free Amazon GCs and a 25 buck GC from Virgin! Woo Mooo!

Anyone know what those webplayers are gonna get keywise? It's got a Geode 200 Mhz and i've got more than enough room(59 megs) to DOC jailbait.
BTW, anyone else cash in on this ka-ching deal? I never paid a dime for this thing because I got it free, shipping was free, first year was free, the second and third year will never come, AND they gave me 25 bux to buy with a personal shopper because they internet appliance stopped providing service!

If memory serves....hehe...the GEODE was designed by *gasp* Cyrix (while still at Nat Semi, who kept that "part" of Cyrix when selling to VIA). Its based off of the mediaGX, which is based off of the 586. I don't really know any details about it, other than the fact that its basically an integrated everything chip. I doubt they did any CPU specific performance ehancements, though I could be wrong. They just kept tossing stuff onto the die

So that'd be....well, really bad a 586 is really more like a 486.5, not a 586, but certainly faster than an equivalently clocked 486. It should get about 1.2kkeys/sec * mhz....but hey, every bit helps

Hymmmm....it uses QNX as an OS....never heard of it (that doesn't mean much, I'm not an OS guru)...which, low and behold, has a client!

It may have QNX, but I can't use it. I have to replace the DOC or mod the DOC. The webplayer starts up a java browsing environment, and there is no way to disable it as you could on the i-opener. You have to boot off an HD to do anything other than get onto the virgin prodigy(which is no longer in operation). I have a laptop HD, a cable, and the power adaptor, but I need to get up off my behind and hook it up to the player and smack that DOC up.

Maybe I'll setup a cheesy desktop as an X server and run the Player as a client.

Whoa... 800s for $435? Refurb? (I don't deal with sales, so I have no idea what specials may be going on).

Could you give me more info on it? Model and such (I'm assuming it's a Dimension LxxxR, but I have no idea) and what line of business you have to claim to be from?

It's gone now... It was weekend before last. Dell put up a small business computer with 32 megs of ram(they don't configure it that way, so they stepped any orders up to 64 for free) with 100 dollars off and a free 3 year on-site labor and parts service plan.

They screwed up bigtime, and let you double special offer(service plan and 100 off), in addition to the 32 meg selection being available. They stopped selling them on the 7th, when they caught the errors.

It was posted on I believe the HotDeals forum, and I know it was on TechBargains. I got it off TB and immediately ordered.

Edith, it was a dimension L800R. And as for what business, remember that Dell small business can be a consulting business. A one man operation. I'm a consultant, or at least I was when I bought the computer. ;-)
