That's one reason why I decided not to even bother with Excel/Vartech (the telecommunications company sort of like a pyramid scheme where the only real plausible way of earning a paycheck is by selling overpriced telecommunication services to your family, friends, and your friends families).

I got a call on wednesday from a person who is interesting in getting into Vartech/Excel...told them to send me more info, but all she gave was their website.

I really don't understand why you need to trick anyone into a warranty. Inform the customer of the Featues, Advantages, and Benifits of the warranty in an intelligent and professional manner. If they say no, you have done your job.
Where does the trickery come in?

That sums up my experience as well. Spent a year in the PC/Home Office department (otherwise known as 'Computers'). My discount was only of average usefulness, cost + 10%, because there wasn't much margin on anything I don't already own. You are however first in line to capitalize on any price corrections/mistakes.

It was a mix of great fun because my coworkers were awesome and intense, uncomfortable pressure from managers to sell extended warranties by the dozen. If you have any inclination to learn you get pretty good at it too. You have not lived the life of a salesman until you've sold a warranty that is 50% of the cost of the item itself.

My friend got canned from Best Buy because a secret shopper "claimed" he didn't greet her.

Then unless there was a total lapse of management brainpower, they probably had more reasons to it than just not greeting a customer. It just doesn't make sense to have to run through training all over again with someone new for such a tiny infraction. Believe me, I've done way worse.

Customer is always right?

It is always right to rip off the customer.

What are you, on the best buy management team or something? All those warrenties are a scam. They'd sell you an extended warrenty on a roll of toliet paper if they could get away with it.

No, I don't work for Best Buy. I rarely even shop there. If someone out there is stupid enough to buy a warranty on toliet paper, how can you fault someone for selling it?

I sympathize with disgruntled BB employees and customers. Retail can really suck sometimes.

It sucks not making good pay, that's for sure. Like you said though, sometimes the money doesn't matter all that much when you get special perks or really good discounts on store product.
