World Of Warcraft Videocard

My son is playing WoW and I would like to upgrade his AGP videocard. I dont need or want to spent the $ on the best, Just one that will run it well - would like to stick with Nvidia, NO Ati

Athlon XP2900+
MSI 440 MX 128 Mb
Chaintech Nforce2 7NJL6

Dont think you can touch a nVidia 6800GT for 200 bucks, a 6600GT yes - but Thats more than I want to spend...Maybe 100-125

Possible to unlock the pipes, I did notice a 6600 however its 64bit, not sure whether you're going to want the extra pipes or extra memory bandwidth. Since you can unlock the pipes the 6200 should be better after that, however if you don't want to mess with anything I'm not sure what is best.

As long as you can run AGP 8x, any card running Nvidia 6600GT with 128MB of memory is probably exactly what you're looking for.

Edit: Also, since WoW is a largely NVidia powered game, you run less risk of getting a problematic video card if you stick to the NVidia chipsets.

I would recommend RAM instead/also for all the loading. Get another stick of 512 and then get a Used Geforce 4 TI and it'll run perfect and load faster.

haha thats what i would do if my card was better... my lil bro always wants to upgrade his comp but never really uses it for anything so i pass him my older stuff whenever i upgrade, hell it works and we're both happy!

anyway 100-125 on a video card is bein kinda chinsy don't u think... treat the kid and get him a 6600GT and you won't have to upgrade for ages... i bet its the same chinsy attitude that made u buy him an 'MX' video card in the first place lol

Yeah, it's not GDDR3 though. But for your son's needs it'll probably work fine and it's 70 bucks cheaper than the 6600GT. That being said, since AGP will most likely begin to fade within the next year or two (but maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself), I'd get him a little better AGP card now that'll last him longer. By the time his 6600GT AGP card wears out it'll be time for a PCI-e system anyway.

Also, is your 512MB RAM in 1 or 2 sticks? If it's only 1 stick, I'd drop another in there to up the RAM to a gig. However, if it's already 2 sticks, the benefits of going to dual channel memory are debatable at best.

This is just marketing, nvidia pays them to slap that logo in a few key places. Ati does it too.
