I've been looking for sites like this as I've been trying to find any pics of the carrier I father was on when it was sunk in the Battle of the Coral Sea in 1942 - the original Lexington. Or the smaller carrier, Nassau, which he was assigned to afterwards.

I may be able to help you, what was your fathers name and the ship he served on? And do you mean the USS Lexington or USS Nassau? You ought to take the time to visit the ship in person, I think it would be a very emotional trip for you.

If your father is still around, here is a page where he can contact living members of the USS Lexington. Prehaps there's an old buddy he has been wondering about. My 91 year old grandfather still wonders about his old buddies in the Navy.

I think I know which one you are talking about but could you provide me with some links please.

Also note that some of these were scanned from negatives and others from prints.

I have many colour pictures of my self from the late 70's and early to mid 80's that at the time were vibrant but are now slightly faded and have lost much of their original colour. But the many of the negatives were well preserved and still produce very vibrant prints.

Neat! Adding color gives everything a new sheen and makes it easier to relate. I think we tend to think of those days actually being in black and white, cause that's the only visual record we have of them.
