I'm an avid follower of anandtech, but never felt like I had to post to the forum to get info. I'd like to do an upgrade before I leave the country on a three year job assignment. I don't game much and so don't need a gaming machine. I do mostly media editing. I don't overclock, although I tend to gravitate toward mid to high end Gigabyte or Asus boards for the builds I've done.
I'd like to get by with my current 500W seasonic powersupply (love that thing) and my Sapphire X1950XT graphics card (although I will probably upgrade that at some point).
My reading says that an i7-860 coupled with a reasonable P55 board would be best, say Gigabyte P55A-UD3P. But the Foxconn socket issue has me spooked (there are a bunch of reviews on Newegg that look like they are socket related).
I could go with an i7-930 with some sort of X58 board and avoid the socket issue, but then I'm wondering of my 500w supply will cut it.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
