Worst restaurant experience ever

I was visiting my friend (lives about 50 miles away) for her birthday. Before we get to the restaurant I kept saying a little phrase that was stuck in my head. Some classmates of mine kept saying it in class one day, and I thought it was funny. "Do ya wan yo cornbread bit?" in a very country-ish accent. I'm not sure where the original phrase comes from, but it just sounded funny when they said it.

A group of us (4 people) were a little hungry, so we went to go get something to eat. We went to one of there usual locations, we sit ourselves and we wait.

The waitress appears with a really snobby attitude, and wasn't friendly at all. Not even a smile on her face, just a "What do you want?" kind of attitude. She took our drink order and got it ready. My friends and I are wondering whats wrong with the girl, because we immediately noticed the bad attitude, it was very apparant.

So she comes back with the drinks and we order the pizza. She left, and I said the phrase again... I've been saying it for the past hour or so, just because it was stuck in my head (don't ask, thats besides the point).

So we are all talking, then some cook/manager/whoever comes up, and asked, "Did you call the server a b*tch?". I replied "No, I said Cornbread (didn't say the whole phrase).". He said "Ok.", I said "Don't worry about it." He replied and asked "Do I look worried to you?", I answered, "No, you look fine". So he walks off and I wish him a nice day.

Apparently when I said "Bit" the server thought I meant "b*tch", which wasn't the case. Either way, the service was horrible and the accusation was false.

Meanwhile, my friends and I are joking about how we're scared they'd do something to our food. But they ate it, and since we agreed we'd split it by 4, I didn't want to spend money on a perfectly good meal.

The waitress returned with the food, didn't even look at us, just dropped the pizza off, and left the check, never to return for refills for drinks or anything.

I don't know how much of a tip one of the girls left, but I wasn't going to leave anything. I couldn't find any customer comment cards, but I did find a business card with the proprietors' names on them. I wish I could find a way to write them a letter directly, but the only number/contact information I have is the location of the restraunt and its phone number.

Either way, I wanted to rant a bit. I probally should have came up with some smartass answers for the cook/whatever, but I didn't think about it at the time.

Cliffnotes:

Bad service
server thought I called her a b*tch
cook comes up and talks to me
ate food and left

crappy page for restraunt

At a Ralphie's we order a salad, and a leaf of lettuce had a SLUG on it (gag!). The waitress took it back, and the second salad had two little black bugs in it.....then the lettuce on my cheeseburger had MUD on it.

WTF kind of kitchen are they running back there?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We REALLY complained after that, they offered us free meals on our next visit, and we refused them. Yuck. One screw up, OK, fine, it happens. Two screw ups, wow...you're having a bad day. THREE SCREW UPS, someone doesn't know what they're doing :disgust:

How bout you just chalk it up to a waitress having a bad night serving random people with multiple attitudes even before you walked in the door and cut her some slack ? Leaving her no tip is good enough.

I'll give the place a call tomorrow and have a talk with the manager. Do you remember the name of the waitress?

Agreed! Sure the waitress wasnt great, but I can understand the confusion with the b!tch/bit comment. I think you're immature comment "don't worry about it" in rebutle was uncalled for. Handleing the situation more mature and camly would have been more appropriate, don;t you think? I'm not trying to give you a hard time here, I'm being honest.

Call the store tomorrow (after you've had some time to thing about things) and ask to speak to the manager. If that gets you no where, ask to speak to one of the owners (after all, the cook hat approached you might have been the MOD). Just be sure to be collective, calm, and mature with your complaints.

Went to have Dim-Sum in San Diego. Wasn't too busy, but there were only a few carts going around, and there were around 10 of us. Sat and waited and waited and waited. Finally a cart came up and we took a couple of dishes. Waited, waited, etc... Flagged down one of the guys that comes by to add up your check and asked if we could have some water. He said he'll get a waitress to do it.... waited, waited, waited.... finally one of us got up and walked up to the bar area and started filling some glasses with water, and brought them back to the table. Waited, waited, etc...
no carts were even coming down out end. So we flagged down the guy again, and asked him to add up our check; i think it came out to like $12. Threw down the cash and got up to leave, when all of a sudden, one of these cart ladies came running up to us telling us that we did not tip. There was a note on the menu that there's a mandatory 15% tip for any size party. She didn't speak english very well, and i asked here if she knew what TIP meant. well she didn't understand what i said, and i told here that we had to get our own water, and some of us didn't get any food because she and her friends hadn't come by. Turned around and walked out with her screaming at me.

never been back to that place again. the sad thing is that everyone had told me what a great place it was.

Sounds to me like you came in, acting like a fool in public, and the waitress was offended by it. Shame on you. You should have apologized to the waitress, "I'm sorry if you thought we were insulting you, you're actually doing a great job." Throw a smile in there, and everything would have been cool. Now for the next week everyone at the restaurant is going to be talking about the customer who called their waitress a b!tch.

Obviously the manager believed the waitress, and not your punk ass. That's why he sassed you.

I would never go out of my way to piss off the waitstaff or the cooks/chefs even unintentionally. They WILL put stuff in your food. Good luck.

Love it... I can't believe they think they deserve a tip with no service... sometimes I'm so ashamed of my own race. You should see how they bitch if they don't think you left enough of a tip... they'll chase you down for sure...

So you were sitting right behind us? How was your pizza?

You have to be joking.

I told the story as is. We sat down, I said "Hi", and she looked at me coldly and immediately the bad service was apparent. Greeting someone is acting like a fool? I couldn't have offended her walking from the entrance to our seats, and neither is saying Hi, so obviously it was something beforehand. Her attitude problem was unjustified.

I did absolutely nothing to cause her attitude problem and just because she misunderstood what I was saying (which I can understand, it does sounds similar), I should not have to apologize. I already explained to the manager what I had said, which was nothing to apologize for.

Meanwhile, stop acting like you were there with us, you had no idea what occured at the restaurant so go troll in some other threads. Insulting me was not neccessary. The waitress' view may be different, but I am telling the story as is, from a customers point of view. Of course the manager would be biased with his waitress, I don't blame him, my boss does the same, but just because two people agree with each other doesn't mean its right. Bad service and a false (but understandable) accusation is not a good way to keep customers.

How bout you just chalk it up to a waitress having a bad night serving random people with multiple attitudes even before you walked in the door and cut her some slack ? Leaving her no tip is good enough.

Having a bad night is perfectly fine, I work in a customer service position, and I know exactly what its like, but one problem with another customer doesn't mean she needs to act as nasty as she did to others. Refusing to do a job (she stopped serving us after the food was dropped off) was really uncalled for. Why should I leave her a tip? She stopped doing her job. The girl had left a tip though, I'm not sure how much.

why did u keep repeating that dumbass phrase??

As I had said, it was stuck in my head, I don't say it everyday, it just came up.

Sure the waitress wasnt great, but I can understand the confusion with the b!tch/bit comment. I think you're immature comment "don't worry about it" in rebutle was uncalled for. I really don't see how "Don't worry about it" is immature... it was not in a sarcastic manner, just in a regular tone, telling him to ease off. There was nothing to worry about, I said something different than what he/the waitress understood, so I told him exactly what he should do, not worry about it. What would you have suggested? An apology was not neccessary, I have nothing to apologize for.

I would never go out of my way to piss off the waitstaff or the cooks/chefs even unintentionally. They WILL put stuff in your food.

May have happened, I do not know, I was wary of eating the food when it was brought to us. No one else had problem and ate it, nothing abnormal was found. I just took a slice... might as well since I was hungry and paying for it anyway.

I'm not sure, it just sounds like someone getting angry and threatening someone with eating there corn bread. Like I said, I had no idea of its roots before this thread, and I'm not even sure if it is from the Chappelle show.

I'd really like to contact the Proprietors directly. Since the cook/whomever is in charge sided with the waitress, I'm not sure how far I can get with a call to the store, since the person in charge doesn't believe me anyway.

Eh, depends on the resteraunt if you'll get a surprise in your food. Fast food, sure, professional chains, probably not.

I worked in a Kelsey's resteraunt for 9 months, the worst thing I ever did was soak a salad with a healthy extra dose of greek salad dressing. No one else spat or any such things. Hell, I've never even heard a waitress tell us cooks a rude/bad table.

My grandparents own a restaurant and would never put stuff in your food no matter how bad the customers were (I worked there since I was 13). They would just talk about the customers in Chinese behind their backs. If someone did something to the food and word got out, it would put a mom and pop shop out of business.

i once went to a dim sum in nyc's chinatown with my parents and a couple of their friends. it was about 4 pm, and the service was terrible (similar situation, waitress wouldn't get drinks, had to go to bar, couldn't get food), but at the end, the waitress brought the check and waited at the table for us to leave, because she knew we weren't going to tip well. the bill was about $19.xx, my dad left a $20 (he didn't want to leave anything at all, but we figured the hell with it), and she was yelling at us, saying you need to leave a bigger tip, etc. my dad told her she did an awful job, she told us never to return. (yeah, right, it was a little shjt place) probably one of the worst waitresses i've ever experienced

I'd venture to guess that they didn't like the looks of you. That would explain why the waitress treated you like she did (ugh, I got these guys in MY section) and the manager sassed you.

You could have handled the situation better.

The one that comes to mind is the cigarette butt sliding out of the A-1 Sauce bottle and the manager like..."Meh, what do I look like , someone who gives a sh1t?"... Date was aghast, to say the least.... My steak, noooo, it was fine.
