I have never really been into RPG's at all. I have always been into RTS and FPS games. I did like stalker a lot (original) and I really like Far Cry 3. I have read that if you like Skyrim you would like Far Cry 3 and its even been called 'Skyrim with guns". However, I didn't like Borderlands very much. Go figure. Anyway, do you think I would like Skyrim?
I'm really not very interested in spending weeks and weeks collecting magical potions and all that magic crap. I really don't like complicated combat where you open a MASSIVE magic spell menu, choose a combination of overly complicated magic potions, use the potions on your enemy, and then while they are frozen or something you shatter them with a bow and arrow. Thats my idea of RPG games. Overly complicated, nothing is straight forward, nothing is simple, takes eons to accomplish anything etc etc.
So again, would I like Skyrim?
You might. I am sick of most of that magic nonsense but enjoyed it.

However, since it's basically fallout 3 with magic and swords, go play f3 first if you haven't already. In point of fact fallout 3 is WAY cheaper and a better game anyway, so play F3 and then new vegas. If you hate fallout 3 you will hate skyrim.

I love Skyrim and Fallout 3.

New Vegas is alright. Oblivion was kind of meh. Morrowind was very good. Daggerfall was fantastic and was my first RPG back in 1996.

My girlfriend made me get an XBox last week and it came with Skyrim. I just started playing myself. Granted the graphics are horrible because, well, it's an XBox, but the game itself is OK and I find it pretty relaxing to tool around with it on the couch. It's a massive sandbox and I always have something I can do. That's both the blessing and the curse of Bethesda games. If you're a completionist (like me) you can quickly get overwhelmed and just lose interest completely. I had this problem with Oblivion and, honestly, never finished it. Same for FO3.

On the couch, though, I don't feel as pressured. So I think I'm enjoying it more as a console than a PC game.

Oh, and the combat blows. I'm a Dark Souls fanatic. Relative to DS, this game has miserable combat. But that's only for melee. I've heard that both magic and archery are superior in Skyrim to DS. Haven't used either of those in my game yet.

This sounds exactly like me. When I play on PC, I'm a completionist, and I find I usually spend more time trying to figure out and create the "best" character than actually playing the game. When I'm playing on my Xbox though, I just don't care as much and just have fun while I play. This is just for some games though, I still do the majority of my gaming on the PC.

My first time playing FO3 on the PC, I didn't finish it and didn't quite like it. The second time I tried it was on my Xbox and I loved it, so I would recommend to those that didn't enjoy it on the pc to try it on the 360.

I don't understand this at all. It's the SAME game except on PC you have better graphics and access to mods if you wish. So plug in your Xbox controller and you can have the Xbox experience with better resolution, textures etc.

Your post makes no sense to me. How can the same exact game be better on the system with the worse experience?

They're probably referring to just the vibe of PC gaming at a chair, with mouse and keyboard, and the associations that has in their mind with how they've treated other PC games in the past. Maybe they were obsessive about some earlier generation PC games, and it's hard for them to break that association.

I have my PC on one side of the room and my TV on the other with the PS3, XBox 360, and Wii.

I have a long HDMI cable connecting them so I can use my TV as a third monitor. I use a wireless XBox controller for PC with any game I feel it's appropriate with, or if I just feel like playing it in that way.

I can't say I use the couch much, but I do take a living room chair over nearer the TV sometimes, or just turn my computer chair to face the TV.

I can achieve any sort of gaming experience I desire with this set up, and can get the console experience with way better graphics.

I dig it.

I would have to disagree. I loved Skyrim and liked Oblivion except for the weird levelling system. I tried both FO3 (multiple times) and Fallout NV and could never get into either one of them. They were both too dark and depressing to me, as well as I must not have got the hang of them because I could never seem to get enough decent weapons or ammo and was constantly getting killed. Skyrim and Oblivion otoh I never had any problem completing.

hmmm didn't like FO3 or FO3:NV, maybe I will like this. Seems like it's more action than FO3.

I respect opinions when backed with reason.. saying a game SUCKS and not stating why is silly.. don't enjoy it.. no problem.. but in a thread where somebody is asking questions.. please back some of it up. I enjoyed Skyrim so its easy for me to dismiss any of your comments.. especially with not even a example to back them up.. but again.. I'm not saying this to piss you off, more of.. "why say its SUCKS" then walk away.. you added nothing to the conversation.. and if that was your point, again.. I guess to each thier own.

Again its easy for me to dismiss as I liked it..

OverHyped- well to sell stuff you advertise.. and since almost all game mags rated the game quite highly.. I beg to differ. The gaming public made it one of the top 5 selling games of the year, it is leading game of the year polls ( game players, not reviews, but the actual players) But again we all dont like the same thing.. but the majority did like it.

Talking Dragons- well I'm not sure, this is a complaint? Most old fantasy books have dragons as highly intelligent and can talk. I guess this one can go any way.. no problem not liking it (myslef, i felt the dragons where to easy to beat)

Weak battles- cant argue this one, it was fairly easy.. but then again a Draugr Death Overlord one shotting ya could get ugly fast so fighting hem in tight areas got was no fun.. or some of the bandit camps with 10 on 1 fights.

Short Story line-well its been famously know that the Elder scroll game can be completed in MINUTES (13 minutes for Morrowind) if you skip everything but the main quest.. Of course most RPG players enjoy side quests and don't do this..

massive world with zero reason to explore any of it- this one is the one I cant let you off on.. Why does anybody explore? the game world has 100's of locations that do not pertain to the main quest, dungeons, prisons, caves, dwarf ruins, plain old ruins, bandit camps, keeps, towers, grotto's, etc.. You explore to "FIND" and there are many many things to find..

Again.. don't like it.. i have no problem with that.. but say way..

Combat- melee combat has a stand offish feel, you move the mouse in specific ways to preform slashes, thrusts, or overhead blows.. but the delay, the view angle and lack of way to judge distance from an oponante can make it feel cumbersome. There is not way to tell if you nicked him or did huge damage other then a health bar which takes you out of the game some. Not to mention ranged enemies seem to have a huge advantage ins some locations as you cant get to them quickly while they can pepper you with fire from afar.

Seriously I hated it and i listed reasons why OP might as well so ....? Clunky mechanics, repetitive character animation/interaction, easily thwarted doomsday story line. I don't play games to wander around and listen to people say the same stuff over and over again. It was really just not a fun title for me, graphics were nothing special and it gave me no reason to play it any further.

I'd I've like to have seen a bigger focus on character progression and WAY more story lines to dive into but past a certain point progression is entirely unnecessary as the game ends so abruptly. Just wasn't my cup of tea and I fail to see what others see in it.

Skyrim was the only game I bought a physical copy for in years. Had such huge hope for it but was rather let down in the end.

You've heard this before but I will say it again :
I loved Morrowind for its atmosphere, the feel that I've been transported to an exciting new world. Oblivion and Skyrim settings are, unfortunately, really generic.

Combat has improved somewhat compared to Oblivion but I bought Dark Souls at around the same time I bought Skyrim (both in PC). After experiencing the intense combat of Dark Souls, Skyrim's is a bore fest.

Dialogue has improved but still fall short compared to Bethesda's own published game, Fallout New Vegas (yes I know it was developed by Obsidian). As an old school RPG'er who venerates the likes of Planescape:Torment, the dialogue is much too simplistic for my tastes. I think even Mass Effect 3 has better dialogue.

The saving grace of Skyrim is of course its phenomenal modding community and the sheer size of the world.

If you like exploring, which I do. Skyrim gives you the freedom to spend hours and hours of just walking around, discover what lay beyond the horizon or hidden within the ancient barrows. I love it when I was walking around and found myself in a blizzard. I tried to find shelter in the nearest cave and discovered a lovely enchanted forest deep within.

For some reason I always have problems staying focused on elder scrolls games for too long. I don't know what it is, but every one I've bought and played (Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim), I get about 40 hours in and lose interest.

I think part of it is because I take every quest I find and before I know it, I have no idea what I should be focusing on, feel overwhelmed and quit. Another thing I don't like is when a quest line changes your "reputation" with another group. I always get annoyed after I have chosen one side and miss out on something cool because of that decision.

If I were to go just on this post, I would say that Skyrim is not your thing. Although to me, the combat isn't overly complicated, it equally isn't "Pick a gun and start firing". Your survival is based more on your ability and your level of progression rather than merely how big the damage is of the gun you pick up.

And yes, there is a fair amount of "Magic Crap". You aren't REQUIRED to be a spell caster, but there is that option. And you will probably find that advancing through the story may be facilitated by learning some "Magic Crap".

And potions, smithing, etc... are also parts of the game, including finding the components necessary and figuring out what the correct combinations are (although this is actually Ridiculously easy in Skyrim). If all you want to do is run and gun (as I suspect from your post), you are missing out on huge parts of the game.

at the end of the day, most of the elements of Skyrim are extremely easy. But they are more complicated than a typical FPS. And by design. So, simply from the attitude you present in your post, I would personally avoid Skyrim if I were you.
