Are you talking about 5.53? I'm downloading it now (free version).Originally posted by: Muse

What I've been doing is playing a file and then from the top left corner click View File Info. In there, I can add an album name, title, artist, and it copies that info automatically to the tags. I just started doing that recently. When I open Winamp now it informs me that 5.53 is available. Is that what you folks are talking about? I've been ignoring it because I'm installing a new mobo this week, and that doesn't take precedence.

I figure you might have it there. I'm using 5.52 (the new one's 5.53), and it takes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay longer to load than the 2.93 I was running until around a month ago. I mean, when I double click an MP3 file I want to hear it now, not in 10 seconds. OK, I just timed it ... fully 9 seconds (I'll see how it goes with my new mobo when I rev it up on Wednesday). I only upgraded because of the security concerns of the old version. I wonder if there's a snappier version that's reasonably secure.
I'm using Winamp principally because it works in conjunction with the MP3 split utility that I use very frequently (MP3 Trackmaker 1.2).

Agreed, I don't see much "bloat". I do in fact use the new Bento skin and like it very much, even with that it takes about 3 seconds to come up on the screen, another 1-2 for the media library to be ready to go. But I don't really care about that anyway because I leave it running all the time in the tray. Doing so makes for instant MP3 playback any time I click a file, without even seeing the program that's playing it. But I mostly just pull it up from the tray, use the library, and then minimize it again. Ctrl+Shift+W works very well for this while doing something in another program and wanting to change the song quickly. As I've said, the customizations are endless, it's a great program.Originally posted by: Pabster
Winamp still rocks. I've used it for years.
Turn off all the "modern skin" crap and you can make it snappy as ever. Not sure what "bloat" or "delay" some of you are referring to. It loads instantly on my machines.

I wish it could automatically download the album art for all my songs, but it cannot...
