so what this all boils down to is that you have a problem with women in the workplace and you are making all kinds of excuses to push your anti-woman bigotry. Got it.

thanks for clearing that misunderstanding up

No I have a problem with PAYING SO WOMEN CAN HAVE A CAREER.

They are perfectly free to do so as long as I don't have to pay for it.

That is a pretty big distinction. Freedom has consequences. Women are throwing a fit that it has consequences for them.

No no, you have disdain for people taking your money and spending it on things you don't agree with.

You can say it's about women, and I'm sure that's another aspect to you, but at the core, you don't want to pay for what you don't agree with.

I think that statement would apply to everyone.

hmm, since european businesses with women who go on maternity leave are earning boatloads of money I guess your little equation falls flat on its face.

what does a business do when a woman goes on maternity leave for 8+ months? Who pays and what happens to the empty position??

I'm guessing you don't know. If you'd like to know I'd be happy to explain it to you.

Its obvious who pays. Those not taking maternity leave are paid less than they otherwise would be.

How a country structures things so that they are paid less is really irrelevant.

Well don't you just love all the foreigners telling us how to run the greatest country in the world?

Well.. the biggest military in the world anyways..

I'm pretty sure most foreigners posting here see nothing about the US that makes it the greatest country in the world
One look at most of the threads here is enough to convince most people the US is a pretty messed up place
What exactly do you think us foreigners would be jealous of, or why would we hate the US?

Which is where you're wrong.

Some of us are mature enough to understand that we share expenses and responsibilities. That's society.

While there are things I'd rather not see money spent on, I accept that things have to be done to accomodate the larger goals of our society.

In the UK, I am entitled to 2 weeks off work paid at a standard rate (£136.78 or 90% of your salary pro rata per week, whichever is lower). Most companies will pay your regular wage for those 2 weeks, and claim the SMP/SPP (statutory Maternity/Paternity Pay) for themselves on your behalf (ASMP/ASPP - Assisted SMP/SPP). This way the employees are not having to worry about losing money. Mothers are legally entitled 6 months off at 90% of their standard wage, a further 3 months with SMP and a further 3 months unpaid. All companies will generally pay for the year even if the last 6 months is SSP. The exception to this rule tend to be US owned companies like Amazon, Starbucks etc, they will pay you the SMP/SPP and that is it.

God Bless America

One of the main reasons this country was founded was because we didn't want to be European. I'm glad that principle still has some life today

And women needing to have careers is a larger goal of feminists, not society.

Paid maternity leave is nothing more than forcing the values of liberals onto others.

Pretty sure that had nothing to do with it.
How are you coming to that conclusion?

Nevermind. I see your philosophy.

Immigrants clamor to get in to make money, they still love the country they came from

edit- And the US is the easiest country to immigrate to

edit 2- Why are Americans leaving in record numbers?

yet another misunderstanding of yours.
having the other half "with a career" leads to a much more productive society. you are also ignoring the fact that paid maternity leave goes to men as well, so I guess you have a problem with PAYING SO HUMANS CAN HAVE CAREERS.

again, perhaps you'd be better off relocating your bigotry to a desert island nation populated by sterile men.

thankfully societies around the world have more vision than you.

Or lower wages and higher unemployment :hmm:

Absolutely true. I shouldn't be paying so anyone can have a career. Of course as the topic for discussion is MATERNITY I used the phrase women.

As for paternity leave you might want to look into the reason why people push for it. (HINT: its to benefit women)

It is pretty amusing, and sad and pathetic in a way. Americans are brainwashed from sea to shining sea that "America is the best country in the world" and "Everyone wants to move to America" and that "America is the land of the free"

He's just spouting out the thoroughly ground-in brainwashing ideolgy that he was programmed with since birth. I know because I was also programmed with such nonsense as was everyone that I know who still lives in the US. that programming is a constant everywhere you turn in the US... from media to politics to the classroom.

he thinks he's spouting truth when in reality it is just unsupportable rhetoric meant for americans to be happy with themselves.

LOL... and yet another american ignorance needs correction point... wow sure don't know much about the systems you are attacking.

Paid Paternity leave is mandatory in some countries... why is that? Because it benefits the relationship between the father and the child.

Wrong its because otherwise men wouldn't take it and would out compete women in careers.

damn women for wanting me to pay for them having a career.

You missed an important qualifier. Women should be perfectly free to have a career so long as they don't expect me to pay for it.
