Yes and no. He doesn't have to do anything illegal for the officer to notice him. Sometimes it's as simple as having the one bright car in a pack of silver/grey cars. Sometimes it's just having an older "beater" vehicle. You can stand out from the herd without driving dangerously. I know that I get a lot more attention from officers in my little red sportscar than I do in my Volvo, despite the fact that I tend to speed more with the Volvo since a silver family sedan doesn't attract attention to itself.

you know... i hear this all the time (usually from non- or new drivers) but i've never had an insurance company ask what color my cars are.
who are you people getting insured by?

I dont think they care what color, but if they do its in teh VIN they wouldn't ask.

Color isn't in the VIN. Color is listed in the option codes, which are separate. VIN will only tell things like model, engine type, year of manufacture, make, and chassis serial number.

I read an article that said red cars get pulled over more than any other color.

red color is every police officer's favorite target. and don't forget, insurance will be higher if your car is red.

http://www.snopes.com/autos/law/redcars.asp

while you are correct with the snopes slink, humans are more preceptive to red and will notice it before other colors

Yes red cars are more noticeable on the road generally then other colors. That doesn't mean police TARGET them directly, just that if you have a pack of 10 cars coming down the highway the police will naturally notice the red car first. A week ago I was in a car with some friends (silver Audi), and we got pulled over for 77 in a 65 with cars passing us and cruise control on (we were settled in the "pack"). It just so happened he picked us. The driver didn't even get a warning, but police just pull people over based on 1 amount of speeding then 2 odds of getting another citation (young kids, too nice a car for neighborhood, erratic behavior, etc).

Im going to court on Friday for a speeding ticket. 2 cars past me just seconds before comming up on a cop in the left lane. he says I was going 75 and the two cars ahead of me was going 65. First, i wasn't even going 75 but the fact of the matter is how can they be going 10 miles slower than me when they just past me?

I have to at least get deferred adjucation out of this otherwise its going to cost me $1000 over 4 years in insurance premiums. I HATE San Antonio!

so I can see that I guess.

And no I'm not black, lol

No offense, that thing looks like you were heading to pick up some 3rd graders. Probably why he pulled you, lol

I drove a white Camry for years with no problem. I get a red F150 and within three months I get pulled over.

I think insurance is higher for red cars because it's harder to see the brake lights, hence more of a chance of getting rear ended.

Wrong. 1-14 over gets you 2 pts in NJ

Okay, and the OP is from Ohio. How does it matter? How does it matter when state to state points vary? 2 points is like you're fvcked in CA considering everything is 1 point here. So for that guy who said I went 100+ and only got 4 points in NJ it means nothing to me because it means you got flat out owned in CA.

I've been told by several police/state troopers, that if the weather is nice, I can drive from one side of the state to the other going 7 or 8 over, and never be pulled over. However, I warn my two sons (since I typically go 7 or 8 over) that the rules are different based on age. If they see a speed trap and they're going 8 over, there's a much greater chance that they'll get pulled over. At 72 in a 65, I don't even tap the brakes if I see a speed trap. I simply keep going with the cruise control maintaining 72.

Do you have a legal right to know how fast you were going when your are pulled over? How do you check the points against your license?

1) It'll be on the ticket.

2) Contact the DMV.

I was pulled over a little while ago, and I asked the cop how fast I was going and she said, "faster than me." She gave me a ticket for violating traffic signals or something (it was on the highway, by the way) which came to $75 bucks. However, she did not mark the speed down on the ticket. I don't know how you get "points" on your license though, and I hope I didn't.

If it's clearly a BS ticket then you can contest this in court. Also if the officer left out any info on the ticket (could be something as simple as failing to write down what type of vehicle it was or say the speed you were going for speeding) then it completely invalidates the ticket and the judge will just throw it out.

Something along those lines.

Now, why wouldn't an officer want to go to traffic court to defend a ticket?

Sure, sometimes they're busy with their family. But, it really doesn't bother most of the guys I know.
