When you pay a monthly fee to play a game things are different. You expect more and you should.

There are 1.5 million people paying ~15 bucks a month each for this game and blizzard can't afford a few simple thing:

1. A download server. I'm not expecting them to peg my broadband connection or anything but a REAL download server, 3rd party and user sponsored mirrors would be nice. This peer to peer crap that gets LESS THAN 2k/sec is a crock of sh1t.

2. A forum server. Ever time there is a patch the tech support forums simply go offline. Are you saying you can't afford a forum server and adequate pipe with the money you are raking in. You this happens EVERY patch. You saw the problem last patch and with this patch you have failed to make any corrections.

3. Real tech support. Pay some putz 10 bucks an hour to answer the phone and read from a script if you have to. Again, it's not like you make 1.5million x $50 = $75million dollars off of this game...heck that was just the price of admission. We pay a recurring monthly fee.

AT guys:
Am I asking for something way out of line here? I value your opinions so please tell me honestly if you think I'm off my rocker.

I'm sure I enjoy World of Warcraft, but I just don't remember that I do right now. At this moment I have completely forgotten the respect that Blizzard earned over the past decade. Right now I think they are a chunk of smelly sh1t and I feel completely ripped off.

On #1 - Have you opened the proper ports? On top of the regular BT range of 6881+, you need 6112 and 3724 for optimal speed. I got today's patch at almost 2mbit/sec...

Agree on #2 wholeheartedly

Don't really see the need for #3

It's some port forwarding, not rocket science.

Now that the patch has actually finished my rant can continue!!

1. It now takes 3-5 attempts to get logged on with a considerable delay between attempts.

2. All add ons are disabled (as expected I suppose).

3. They've added new action bars to the game which do not display the hotkeys assigned to them as the 1-10 keys do. Disabling the action bars and using my old bottom-bar add on is no longer possible...since my stealth button which used to appear above my bottom bar now obstructs it instead.

4. All my keys have been set back to defaults.

5. Hovering my mouse no longer displays my health/energy like it used to.

6. They have fixed the rogue bug that caused us to get an extra combo point on occasion, but failed to fix the bug that causes us not to get ANY combo points on our opening move. Additionally the Vanish skill is still broken (not that something like Vanish/stealth would be important to a rogue or anything :roll

All in all it's been a frustrating evening of trying to get WoW to work properly instead of simply playing like I'm PAYING to do.

Bah. Fvckem. Soon as Empire Earth II, Doom III expansion, Battlefield II or any of a few others come out I'll just violate my EULA, Ebay my WoW and be done with this sh1t.

Yeah, it's also their first shot at making a monthly charge on my credit card. They got the bugs worked out of that huh?

I put up with patches and fixes for a lot of games. My patience for this crap is thin when they are raking in a million dollars a DAY to keep things maintained.

Yeah we could probably do without #3. They would need to get a couple things accomplished first like: Fix the tech support forums, actually RESPOND to people in the forums, and put some real content in the KB (right now ANY network issue=user is too stupid to open ports on firewall for instance).

*shrug* most rants about the downloader's slow speed are PEBKAC issues. No offense, all I did was ask, after all.

Forgive me if I snap at anyone. I'm a tad irritated right now due to no one's fault on this board.

It's frustrating trying to find a solution to the downloading issue when every suggestion from blizzard is "open port blah blah" and "shut off background apps". They have their head in the sand about the problems with their downloader. I can download a Diablo / Starcraft patch directly but a game that I'm paying monthly for I have to rely on my fellow gamers for ??? Ludicrous.

Even more annoying: I'm uploading to other WoW-Downloader clients at about 10x the rate that I'm able to download at. I can clear up problems on my end but I can't fix my peers problems. If 40 out of 50 of my peers have left a port blocked what do you suppose happens to my transfer rate? The client program doesn't appear intelligent enough to quickly jump to another node.

Blizzard is simply overwhelmed right now. They can't hire fast enough. That's why I'm waiting for a few months before I bother with WoW. I think most mmp players will tell you WoW's release has actually gone pretty well relative to some other mmps.

I hear ya... I was so looking forward to putting the kids to bed, and jumping into Azeroth. But alas, I cannot.

That being said, this game rocks so much, that cancelling my account hasn't entered my tiny little brain.

As for being able to download the patch, there are a number of sites that have it available... GamersHell, Fileplanet, Fileshack, Download.com, 3dGamers, etc...

Average to mediocre. It would be a credible effort for an indy developer with no experience - say Horizons - but for a company with the reputation for quality that blizzard has it was a pathetic effort.

After the perfect release of DAoC, noone really has any excuse at all for a poor release. It's not like they made a big secret of why it worked or anything - if you are going to distribute 2 million boxes you had better make damn sure that your hardware and software can support 2 million people jumping in on the opening day. If it can't, then don't distribute that many boxes. It's that simple.

I read one of the blizzard tech's responses before release about availability where they said they had enough boxes distributed so that it would be the most succesfull MMO game ever if it sold so of course it would be available, and I just groaned at their stupidity.

Yeah, the bit torrent link posted at the top of the patch thread finished in ~10 minutes for me, but I agree - I was pissed that I couldn't play later earlier this evening to see how bad my hunter got whacked w/ the nerf bat...

A L60 posted before and after screenshots of his L60 spider pet... I don't remember the exact specifics, but it's attack speed went down, and attack damage went up. After it was all said and done, he lost a whopping .4 dps.

Yeah the spiders took a hit too - went from 1.0 attack speed -> 1.5, which does hurt it, but then I haven't seen much in relation to the increased damage, so I'm unable to talk on that

Edit: But aside from the Pet's, Hunter's in general got hurt too as far as their DPS goes...

You can't really compare WoW's release to DAoC or EQ. The sheer numbers that slammed WoW's servers were mind boggling. 600k or something like that. A lot of WoW's problems have been growing pains and little things that they overlooked, like what happens when everyone picks the same server.

Maybe coming from EQ Test Server has made me a little more resilient, because in Everquest, I basically paid money to have my character wiped of all his items. At least in WoW, I havn't lost anything yet. They are trying very hard to add content into the game and improve graphics.

I agree about #1, I hate Bittorrent.
No biggie though, I just hook it up to see the filename, then I hit DC and download it at a steady ~5-10 MB/Sec if I can find someone else with a good connection

The lack of information from Blizzard is a bit annoying though, while I don't really have any issues that need immediate resolving(logon problems and such), it would still be nice to get a bit of info about what problems are acknowledged, what they're working on, etc.
A public Bugzilla would be nice, though completely unrealistic in reality

The BT thing is annoying as well - other torrents work just fine for me without those other two ports opened. I'll have to try that to see if that works any better.

I'm really doubting I'll play another month anyway. My subscription is up sometime early next month, I was going to wait until I hit 40 and got my mount, but I think if I'm getting this bored with it already, its probably time to just save the $15/mo

I want to post a rant I have. It seems that everytime I gate to my bind point using the hearthstone my game locks up. This happens also when I die and Im ported to the graveyard. Tech support told me to rename my two folders, as some of you might suggest, but this did nothing but make it worse. My pc is not too bad: 2.5GHz P4, 1 gig RAM, 128mb 5900 NVIDIA, 22" flat panel dell 2001 running through DVI, and Im on broadband connection connected at 100. I really dont understand why I have to reboot my flippin computer to play again. The odd thing is that once Im back in the game it runs smooth as silk.
The other rant I have is about the Ravager weapon and the woes of getting stuck. Since the patch the following has been happening to me. As some of you may know, The ravager proc's a spell where you twirl around like a tornado. As you twirl, the channeling (spell bar) bar decreases showing a timer. At the end of the spell I have been getting lock ups. Due to this lock up my spot that Im standing in "freezes" me there. I can cast, fight, etc...I just cant move. As last resort, I tried the stick feature in help. Normally this pops you out of that spot and over to another part of the area right? Well it popped me over to my bind point. This sucked due to being in an SM instance and now thrown back to IF.
Sorry for the rant. I just wanted you guys to know that you are not in the boat alone. Im having problems of my own..some are new some have been there since I started the game last month. Hopefully they will fix this soon.

I have issues when I hearthstone too... Sometimes, I get to Menethil and there is noone there - no npc's, no players, not even a mailbox. Eventually it fixes itself or I have to log off and back on again, but jeez its annoying....

I disabled my firewall altogether. It went from 2k/s to a weird state where it would go at 30k/s for 2 minutes, and then drop down to 0 for another 2 minutes. Needless to say, the freaking upload was going full blast using up my connection and making everything else slow. By the time it was over I uploaded twice as much as I downloaded.

No kidding. Don't get me started about UO's initial release. Last night was the first time I have had significant tech problems with WoW. Couldn't log on, had to download patch from a mirror.

Luckily it was all resolved this morning. Of course, some of the things supposedly fixed in the patch were unchanged-- Seal of Command for paladins still yields Miss and Dodge results for the holy damage. Not earth shattering, but still unchanged. I like the new look of the ogres.
