As I stated earlier: I won't praise one company for being the lesser of two evils. A crappy job is a crappy job, no matter how brown the grass is on the other side.

Played Planetside for quite a while. I never felt I wasn't getting my money's worth. It was always up and the patches were painless. The only major fubar I saw was when they introduced BFRs to the game and shifted the gameplay balance badly. I quit pretty much just to try something new with WoW.

Right now WoW has no competition for me. I've played out all my other recent games (Doom, HL, Tribes, UT, Scrapland, Myst, yada yada) so WoW is getting me by for now. However, I have been VERY unsatisfied with the service from Blizzard (it's like I'm paying every week to relive the HL2 release fiasco). There are a few titles that will be appearing soon that I've been looking forward to (BF2, D3 expansion, EE2 etc). As soon as they are available I'll be cancelling my WoW, ebaying my copy, and saying goodby.

It's too bad. WoW has GREAT potential. The game itself is absolutely awesome. Although obviously a more daunting task, if they could keep WoW running like they did Battle.net I would probably send them monthly checks indefinately.

sure we have 5 other exhange servers and 18 other DCs to reroute to but this isnt the same thing.. read your EULA for WoW .. NOWHERE do the guarantee you access 24/7/365...
Infact it specifies that you will NOT be able to and that it is at thier conveinance that the servers will be worked on.

as long as they are workign to make the game better.. how about get off thier backs and let them work... they trying to help the users here...

this is like pansey ass users calling the helpdesk all day every day on announced outage complaining that they cant use thier freaking VPN, CITRIX etc....

You know that Tuesdays is maintenance day EVERY week.. patch or no patch this is the day they work on the servers....
why bother whineing about it?

I swear people are soo spoiled.. you agreed to the terms if you dont like it quit whinign cancel and go play your freakign playstation where there are no servers to worry about..

If you worked for me you would be fired. Seriously, you would be cleaning out your desk while I found your replacement.

We make servers stay up here, not excuses. Just because you are so addicted to Warcrack that you'll suck blizzard off just to get it doesn't mean that we should find their poor service acceptable.

This most recent patch:
1. Was a patch to fix problems they introduced in the last patch (a regression).
2. Left the support forums flooded and completely unavailable for the PAYING customers.
3. Was done to all realms simultanously (just like the regression patch was).
4. Went from a 45 minute window to a full day.

How is any of that OK? You're only defending this because we have called your precious blizzard out. Take your blinders off and see what you are paying for. A single incident like this shout put their IT staff in hot water. Howver, this ISN'T a single incident is it? No, it's a pattern.
If enjoyment of the game doesn't outweigh your (understandable) frustration with the service, you may want to consider quitting or trying another title. personal flames aside as I will not fall for that flame bait...

I have played EVERY MMO to date... from M59 in 1995 to MxO released 3 days ago...
every and let me restate that for the reading impared EVERY MMO to date has had problems with patches and downtimes...

I have been on EVERY beta/Alpha team for every SOE product to date... and not open betas either closed first phase alphas usally...

SOE has just as many problems with SWG EQ1 PS and EQ2....
and they arnt usally willing to comp you in any way shape or form either...
UO had daily 2 hour maintanence at 11am CST every single day

AC 1 and 2 as well as AO had horrendous downtime in thier first year...

SB hahah more downtime than Uptime...
CoH pretty good actually but still alot of bugs that dont get patched...

get over yourself you have 0 clue about the gaming industry and are obviously talking out of your ass about your 100% server uptime as well
this is a first year product not even 6 months old yet....
My server Gorefiend rarely is down except for scheduled downtimes and has no queues or problems logging in except on patchdays...

oh ya.. about the forums... try getting to some of the other companies websites when you have 1 million + counting non subscribers since thier boards are Public trying to access and see the changes or talk....

Im not a bliz fanboy.. I was an SOE fanboy till EQ2... i defended people saying crap about EQ1 and SWG till lately..... after they showed they are incompetant... and care less about what the customers want...

Bliz is doing a great job getting this product up to snuff...

Wow, don't you come across as an arrogant, pompous, elitist snob? I think YOU need to get over yourself dude. If there is some 12 year old out there playing a MMO for the first time ever, what makes you think his hard earned cash is worth less than yours?

I'm sorry your highness, but I think when 1.5 million people are paying $15/mo and then sitting around for an entire day while the service is unavailable in simply unacceptable. If your opinion differs so be it, but don't try to belittle others who disagree.

While I'd choose somewhat kinder words, I fully agree with CV that an mmog might not be your thing. Your ignorance of other mmogs and the logistics of running one, your impatience and your insistence on instant gratification peg you as someone who'd be much happier playing Counterstrike and leetly pwning teh n00bz.

becasue it is a standard thing when talking about MMOs.. if you dont like it CANCEL
the difference is I have had 10 years of experience with these launches and it is the norm...

Im tired of childish whining and complaining about soemthing you cant and wont change...
game servers are NOT exchange servers or LInux servers or any other production machine...

they are writing thier game code from scratch on the fly to fix this crap..
mistakes happen and take time to fix...

we arnt talkign about slipstreaming a new approved service pack here....

you cannot compare what we do as MCSA/MCSEs for our companies to what these companies have to do on a weekely basis among all the yelling and screaming from juvinile asshates like you that think becasue you pay them your subscription you get 24/7 uptime and no bugs...

WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD OF MMOS...
dont like it PLAY YOUR XBOX AND STFU about it...

I dont know what the problem is.... I have logged over 2 months solid play time already within 4 months on 2 chars.... both L60 now...
and Im a casual player.. 4-6 hours a night after work... full days on weekends unless its nice outside..
I think I get my 15 bucks a month worth...
they do mainteance during the day in the USA when peeps are supposed to be at WORK... so it shouldnt be hurting peeps that much....

I have to try this on my wife.

Wife: Will you stop playing that game already?! You're always on the damned computer!
Me: Woman, please. I was reading I need to play 32 hours a week minimum to be anything more than a casual player...

You don't have to defend yourself. Like most elite members, Sunner just trolls around the forums, immaturely flaming random people. Just laugh and move on.

It's obvious that you disagree with me so why don't you head over to the "Blizerd si teh r0xors!" thread and leave all of us "juviniles" to play our XBoxes while we gripe about WoW being down. Don't bump your fat ego on the way out.

i wish i had that kinda time to work on my character. between school and work i get maybe 25 hrs of WoW or less. L41 and having a hard time lvling.

side note: those who rant on and on and on about how terrible the servers are, tough. it's an awesome game, you just take the good w/ the bad.

if the download p2p is slow, its probably your sh!tty connection or you didn't forward the right ports.

since theres over 800k players, during patch time, everyone is trying to get on worldofwarcraft.com and its a ton of traffic, come on use your geek brain.

besides blizz compensates pretty well. give people 2-day extentions, Full rest bonus. i wouldn't mind a few hrs of downtime to get full rest bonus.

I consider WoW server downtime 'forced breaks'. These are the periods to wash and eat during.

If my cable tv stopped working for a day: I'd be pissed.
If my internet connection went down for the day: I'd be pissed.
If my car didn't work for a day: I'd be pissed.
If my phone didn't work for a day: I'd be pissed.

You are NOT a casual gamer. You are HARDCORE!

A casual gamer plays for a couple of hours once or twice a week.
A person who plays all day at work and then goes home and plays is a degenerate loser.

Be happy you have the time to play more than the former and the self control to not be the latter.

That speaks volumes. Personally, it would take a lot more than any of those things to get me upset. Really, have some perspective... The things listed are so trivial compared to the truly important things in life.
By the way... What does getting so "pissed" about such things gain you?

Back to the topic at hand, WoW: Either you like the game (and find the upsides better than the downsides), or you find the opposite to be true. Either way, your only real recourse is to quit paying the money. Whining about it on a msg board does absolutely nothing productive.

I mean, which is more ridiculous... Those of us who enjoy the game and accept that it's not available to us 100% of the time? Or those who are absolutely disgusted with the service, bitch endlessly about it, yet all the while continue to pay to be dissatisfied? Or those who bitch about it and have never even played it, nor have the intentions to?

Nothing, of course. But if I can't do what I need to do (car, phone, internet) I'm going to be pissed. I can't help it, it's just that things need to get done.

I don't watch a lot of tv, so if it's not working for the hour or two per week that I decide I want to watch something, I'm going to be upset.

I don't have any intentions to give them money because of all of the problems.

EDIT: By the way, I don't consider my car, phone, or internet trivial. They're a part of how I get the important things in life. Some of us work for a living.

Definitely going to have to agree with this statement. If I that much time to play I probably would care less if the servers were down. It slightly urks me when the servers are down on the 1 night during the week that I actually have a few hrs to play. However, this is the world of online gaming... and it's to be expected. Blizzard is doing a good job of recomping people for down time... hehe i'm getting the full rest bonus!

Great, if you don't think you would enjoy the experience, I think you are absolutely right for not spending your hard earned money on it. And I certainly wouldn't attempt to belittle your choice, as you do to those of us who are enjoying the game, thinking it's worth every penny. (Yes, even despite it's shortcomings.)

And yes, in the big picture (not in a religious way), those things are incredibly trivial. Going a day without cable, or phone, internet, WoW, or anything else you listed would be irrelevant shortly thereafter.
And despite your inference... Yes, I do have a damn nice career. It would be pretty hard to support a wife, two kids, house, two cars, etc. without a job.

Riiiiight. Just keep telling yourself that. I can pull 450K/s on my sh!tty connection and there is absolutely nothing wrong with my ports (against my better judgement I even shut off my software firewall and bypassed my router).

That patcher is just a chunk of sh1t. You know it, I know it.

besides blizz compensates pretty well. give people 2-day extentions, Full rest bonus. i wouldn't mind a few hrs of downtime to get full rest bonus.

The two day extension is silly. It simply shifts your bill date. The end result is whenever you stop playing the game you'll have two extra days. It's almost statistically certain that you'll not stop exactly on your last bill day so the end result is blizzard gave you two puffs of smoke up you @ss.

The full rest bonus, however, is a pretty cool idea. I went in and ground off my rest last night so I would get 100% of the bonus. The level 60 characters obviously don't benefit much but it's still a good idea IMHO.

Extending auctions in the AH would have been a nice touch. I had a bunch expire since there was no one on to buy. Some would have expired without selling anyway I'm sure.

For everyone here "bitching about the bitching":
Take your own advice - you say if I don't like it then quit?
If you don't like my griping, don't read my thread. :disgust: Hypocrites.

I obviously like the game or I wouldn't play, but if you think you're going to convince me that it's ok for something I'm paying for to be unavailable then you're disillusioned.

Also, don't think that I somehow expect perfection. I don't. I expect a lot better than this though. I have yet to see blizzard meet the closing of their maintenance window. Expect 100%? No. Expect 0% definately not. They aren't having any problems with the billing servers are they? That would NOT be acceptable, yet it is acceptable to have a massive outage every patch. Sh1t happens, but this stinks of poor planning and management across the board.

Hey here's an idea: You know you're going to have to patch again. When you do the realm status web server is going to get hit hard. How about you proactively invest in this server now. Just an idea. The realm status server doesn't go down because of a random hardware failure that they can't control. It goes down due to incompetent IT management. Some of you guys are stuck so far up blizzards butt that you'll make excuses for them. Go on, get started...

I know you're not one of the kids on the forum. I pay attention to your posts. Those things you listed are what make the job important, making the things you need for that job important.
