I was wondering if the new firmware has stablized this router or is it still having a lot of issues.

yeah, I too would be interested in knowing the differene beteweent hte V4 anbd V5 WRT54G.

v4 and v5 have same hardware, but totally different and incompatible firmwares.
The v4 is linux based.
The v5 is vxware, and you cannot use any custom firmware on it.
