Never heard about this car till today. Looks like factory rice to me But man, it's pretty loaded especially the stereo. What car is this based on, the protege? Is it reliable?

According to a recent review by Sport Compact Car magazine, it not only has looks, it can perform too... they said it handles better than the Integra Type-R, which is pretty impressive considering the Type-R is one of the best handling FWD cars in the world....

Even though it only has 140hp now, rumor has it that Mazda will be coming out with a supercharged version soon...

I think the car looks very nice for a compact, better than the Sentra SE-R IMO. But it still only has a 140 HP engine. For the price I'd rather get the uglier but faster SE-R.

It does come with neat stuff though like the Kenwood MP3 player and racing hart wheels. I hear a more powerful version is coming out soon.

to answer the question, the protege is an extremely reliable car. No, the Se-R isn't out yet, probably 4 or 5 months still. I really hope they give this thing a little more juuice, I like this car way more than the other compacts b/c it is roomier. I am still waiting on the toyota matrix and the 02 altima too.

Saw this puppy in yellow when it was at the Atlanta auto show...paled in comparison to my l33t WRX, but that's just because I'm a scoobie freak

It actually seemed to be a nice car, though I'd still take the upcoming 200SX SE-R over it anyday.

/agree the wrx is better, BUT the wrx does cost like 5k or so more... so the mp3 is a good car, but lacks performance, more like a rice car for those on a budget But I am going to get a impreza wrx STi 2004 or so...

There is NO WAY that the Mazda MP3 handles better than the Integra Type R. Is the magazine backing that up with numbers? The Integra Type-R's skidpad rating is 0.92g's. I don't know of a sedan for that cost that handles better than that. Although the MP3 claims to have Tokico springs and shocks which are decent (about $600-700 total for a good set of both), i don't think this could help it's handling that much.

And Racing Hart rims? Yeah....that's rice alright ::rolls eyes:: I have no clue what a &quot;Racing Beat&quot; exhaust is..just a Mazda exhaust with a big tip? If so, there's yer rice.

I have a 2000 protege, very nice car.


Very good build quality, no squeaks and rattles like the focus and saturns I tried, much nicer (100%) then my moms hundai elantra

I hope the 5 door sport stays around in 2003 for me to get one.
