I'm married with kids.

My mom got me an MSI Lightening 7970 GHZ Ed for Christmas.

Although my mom has been doing Comp Sci since the punch card days.

You're lucky. I could show my mom how to do something a hundred times, and she still can't do it.

sounds like my dad. mom is more willing to try stuff or figure it out on her own. my dad might try once and then call me when he can't do it.

My dad has several HS friends that also moved to US in NY, GA, and AL. He taught them to use Google Hangout video chat to drink together! And on his birthday last month, they all met up to drink in New York. One friend couldn't make it, so my dad brought his laptop, connected it to the restaurant's wifi, set up video chat, and his friend got to celebrate remotely from Alabama, as they drank all night..

How do I know youre Korean?

My dad is still having problems leaning his new telephone answering machine that he's had for six months now.

88 years old, though.

Random stories that only matter to him, astounding naivety for his age, and posting things that he has to know he will be made fun of for.
The great melting pot of ATOT.

Fair enough.

Sharing inane stuff about self = naivete?

What am I afraid of- ATOT making a predictable jab about my parents or inane personal stuff I've shared here later on?

I think that's maturity.

My mother's gone a few months now without turning off the menu bar in Thunderbird, and telling me she can't write emails. Come to think of it, I'm not sure she's done that since switching to Ubuntu; more than a few months if that's the case. Not sure what the difference is, but I'll take what I can get.

lol, SUCCESS

edit: haven't had any support calls from my wife's father since I told him he better be in a regular user account (Windows 7, he uses friggin Guest mode) and have Teamviewer installed. Been over a year of peace in my life now.

Funny thing is my dad knows his shit when it comes to computer and network security, gets paid the big bucks to do consulting and yet when it comes to buying hardware he's kinda clueless and always ends up calling me for advice heh. And he still uses a dumb phone.

my dad has been using a computer for over 10 yrs now (he will be 63 this yr)... some of the questions he still has for me.

1.) left click or right click? this is any time I ask him to click on something... my response -> always left click unless I say "right" click...
2.) what is a web browser?
3.) Why can't I download this (a hyperlink)?

he cannot forward an email. instead he will print the email and fax it to me. Cannot copy and/or paste. Doesn't know what an address bar is, why would he, he doesn't know what a web browser is.....

so frustrating when he needs help on a computer..

Both my parents are in their 60's, my father worked most his life as a programmer and was always buying new computer toys back in the "roarin' 90's" while my mother is a Montessori Pre-School teacher. I have literally never had to do phone tech support for either of them, although when I was younger and living with them I did get the odd request here and there (every time it was a slightly more serious issue with the computer).

My mum even got a Galaxy Touchpad 7.0, figured out the damn thing all on her own and skypes with my sister regularly.

My mom is pretty good too, she is in her 80's, attached to an O2 tank full time and can only get around with the help of her walker, but her mind is still pretty sharp even after having a few small strokes(TIA).

A few years back, I put together a computer for her and she caught on how to use it quite well. She actually outgrew it and we bought her a newer one a couple years ago. She has become quite the gamer, albeit silly games from Big Fish, but just the same she downloads and installs her own games and has me come to clean up the computer at least once a week.

Though its not a smartphone, she does have a qwerty phone and texts like crazy. Texting has made her shut-in life a little more bearable because she is never more than a few keystrokes away from someone. I have to laugh when I get a text in a meeting and comment "just another text from my 82 year old mother" and everyone glances over at the least tech savy person in the room.

My sister got her a Kindle Fire for Christmas and she is so happy to be able to read again, the text in most books is too small to read. It did take a little adjusting to get used to the touch screen.

And now, for the rest of the story:

Little does Zeze know that his parents are also leaving him a huge fortune in their will. They just took out their life savings and sent it to the Nigerian Prince, in order to secure 7 million dollars in profits.

Pfft, covered that from day 1. Nothing is free online, nothing is worth it, nothing good will come out from it. No one will give you money.
