maybe i'm fashionably late but where are his parents through all of this?
What do you think will it be? They also lost a son and they won't get any sympathy from anyone.
Unfortunately, they are between a rock and a hard place. They won't get sympathy here in the U.S. due to their son's actions. They won't get sympathy back home in Korea because their son disgraced the country by killing so many innocents. Either way, they are screwed...
right. i guess i'm just speculating about the references to child-abuse/molestation. especially in asian cultures, this stuff often goes under the radar... did mom/dad really not detect any signs either?
off topic: anybody know if body armor rated at levels IIA and II protect against hollow point bullets? under NIJ classification, only level IIIA makes any reference to that type of ammo.
these obituaries...they're endless.
Hollow points work best against soft targets. Hollow points employ soft materials to promote expansion, which artificially increases the caliber of the bullet the way a blower artificially increases the displacement of an engine. But due to their softer exposed lead composition, they expand, fragment, and deflect readily against hard targets like body armor. The deformation of the soft metal absorbs and dissipates the energy on impact against hard targets and the increased surface area of the front of the mushroomed round imparts less stress on the target by spreading out the force on a larger area. Hollow points are less than ideal for armored targets anyway.
Full jacketed non expanding rounds encased in a harder metal jacket like copper are best against armor and offer improved penetration, but create a smaller wound channel in soft tissue. But realistically all *common* handgun rounds are ineffective at penetrating modern body armor, hollow point or jacketed doesn't really matter. Blunt force trauma behind the impact area however is a concern, as you can still suffer broken bones, bruises, and ruptured organs. 'Feels like getting hit by a truck' is about right. With full class III armor with all optional trauma plates however, you could take 9mm rounds to the chest all day and it would barely even register. Class III is capable of stopping limited applications of even .308/7.62mm rifle fire.
The reason he did so much damage is because everyone was in neat little rows and trapped in 20' x 20' rooms sitting on the floor hiding under their desks and he fired no less than three shots per unarmed unarmored victim at close range.
