so you wouldn't mind walking around campus with a murderer on the loose?
No. Why would I?

I wonder if Colleges will start having those rapid notification systems? They have them at the High Schools here so they can notify parents of closures, accidents, bad weather, or emgergencies. Some of the districts here have 20K+ students, so I can imagine that's a lot of people to contact. They claim these systems can send over 20k text messages and make 20k phone calls in like 5 minutes
That would have saved a lot of lives.
I'm still confused at why one person getting killed in the morning should lead to closing down a school? WTF? Somone got shot in my dorms at school. It didn't affect the running of the school at all. Obviously once the mass shootings started, that was a big deal, but one murder in the morning isn't.

Not all of us just got back from Iraq, dude. Think about it. That being said, I never said the school should be shut down. Just a warning to students and faculty so they can take precautions and know what they face. Even a simple "gunman killed someone and is on the loose" type of message might have gone a long way.

Still over here, but that really doesn't have much effect on my mindset. Anyways, nothing wrong with some sort of warning, but a shut down just isn't justified over one person.

VA Tech is not Baghdad. One shooting definitely warrants a lockdown until the shooter is captured.

Because having people locked away in relative safety is a step closer to preventing mass shootings.

You guys are using information now known to think retroactively about the situation. Think about how often you hear about a random person getting murdered in fairly close locations, and just shrug it off. A typical killer doesn't kill one person that they know and then go attack someone at random on the streets.
Me not really being worried doesn't mean that I have balls, its just common sense.

I hope this nutcase wasn't a CS or online game player, they are going to blame this on gaming
What the guy was is what he was. The blame game will be played later. Right now I cannot understand how so many people are saying "I hope he wasn't X or did X" because they are afraid if the shooter did it will somehow mess with their lives. Over 32 people are dead. I don't really think anyone gives a fvck if you can play your online games or not right now.
Some people tend to immediately think of the long-term consequences immediately. Don't accuse others because you are short sighted.
I'm not shortsighted you dillweed. I'm more interested in what MATTERS, and that isn't video games. It is lives.

That is completely baseless. There is no way for anyone to know if that is true or not until all of the facts are out, which is why all of these arguments should be taken out of this thread.

You've never been anywhere in your entire life that someone has been killed within 5 minutes of you? Your first reaction was to barricade yourself in your house???
On a side note, I went to class on september 11th after watching both towers fall from accross the river in Newark.
