This guy was seriously messed up on so many levels...

Umm if you teach someone one on one, what other students would he be taking pictures of? the empty chairs?

Obviously. But do people honestly think that the logical leap is to go from 'photo snapper' to 'mass murderer'? NO.

People are just looking for someone to blame right now and since the idiot we should be blaming shot himself we are left with blaming those still standing. That would be the chief of police, the university President, and anyone who did not look into the crystal ball and say 'Wow, this college kid likes chicks so surely he will be killing people next!'.

Has anyone contacted Cho's parents ? What's up over there...

Check cnn.com, his dad released a statement.
Mind quoting ? I can't seem to find it still...

I can't find it, either. There's so many links..

For me it's the #4 link under Watch Video (4. Slain student's father speaks (9:45)). Streaming video is blocked at work and my PC doesn't have an audio cable anyway.

You should've at least clicked to expand and it would've told you that its the father of one of the victims.

the only thing I've found about the shooter's parents is that his parents, possible the father has been hospitalized.

Schizophrenia?
What then leads you to believe Cho had schizophrenia?

How he related to his roommate was just too bizarre to be depression. The bizarre content of his plays ? mashing a half-eaten ?banana bar? in someone?s mouth, the hypersexual, nihilistic (death obsessed) obsessions in the absence of depressive guilt or tearfulness are another clue. The progressive decline of a period of years. Those with schizophrenia, especially in their earliest years, are not readily recognizable as such ? their condition is evolving. But here was someone who, as early as 2005, was carrying himself so strangely that he was a spectacle. The depressed withdraw and disappear. Those who are so peculiar in their manner so as to be inappropriate (taking cell phone pictures of his teacher, speaking inaudibly, pulling a cap low over his eyes) exhibit signs and symptoms more indicative of schizophrenia. He was communicating in a rambling manner reflective of what we appreciate as autistic thinking ? characteristic of schizophrenia. In a similar vein, Mr. Cho?s stilted communication in his homicide note (deceitful charlatans ? not the language of a 23-year-old college kid) is also the manner of a schizophrenic?s communications, as is his pronounced delay in responding to questions.

NY Times has pictures of the campus and layout of Norris Hall and Ambler Johnston Hall.

Actually I've been thinking about it and he could possibly have been schizophrenia. He certainly was delusional, and certainly fits the diagnosis according to the DSM-IV...However he could have been a psychotic depressive as well. We'll never really know....that mental health stay is a clue but obviously this man was seriously disturbed and apparently very very psychotic when the attacks took place.

I don't think anyone is being blamed, but people are certainly looking hard into the those around the incident. This happens every time any major event occurs.

It would seem to me the idea is to make sure the *murderer* never had a gun in the first place, not to make sure everyone else has one too...

It's easy to get a gun illegally, just as it's easy to get illegal drugs. If you're willing to murder people, I doubt that obeying the law is at the top of your priorities.

If you banned guns, those who are willing to obtain them illegally would still be able to get them, whereas the law abiding citizens would be disarmed.
Yeah, that's the argument the NRA makes and those sympathetic with their position -- i.e. all the millions of gun owners in the US who don't want to give up their guns. "If you make guns illegal, only outlaws will have guns."

Well, duh! The thing of it is that it will take a long time for this gun happy country to get over it. It won't happen in 2-3 years. It will take a generation for it to really start working, but it will work. You have to make it illegal (highly illegal) to have, distribute, manufacture, adapt, hide, smuggle, cache and use guns. The idea that you are safe because you have guns is trash.
Yeah, pass more laws, that always works. Look at the "war on drugs" with all those people in jail and people hardly ever use drugs any more.

Why do people think that passing more laws will change the way people behave? There is a law about murdering other people on the books and it didn't seem to deter the VT shooter.
Well, it's already illegal to murder people. That's not the issue. The problem is that it's too damned easy to get firearms.

yeap. no firearms no murder.
Didn't say that. No firearms, no murder by firearms. It's too damned easy to kill with firearms. Now, if you had to use a sword how you going to kill 25 people? Yes, you could be a samurai warrior like, say, the guy portrayed by Toshiro Mifune in Kurosawa's samurai movies. But that's a fantasy. Guns are the great equalizer. Hey, you can go down and buy a Glock and kill 30 people, no training necessary. Look, this dumb kid (and yes he was dumb, just read his plays), who had no training at all just acted out his fantasy and became the most prolific firearms murderer in American history. My problem is with guns, mister. You eliminate the guns, and homicide in the USA will be a fraction of what it is today.

You eliminate alcohol and tobacco, and deaths related to those will be a fraction of what it is today.

Your point?

Psychos happen.

Man, you are dense. My point is obvious if you take off your blinders. A psycho bent on murdering people, however motivated needs a means of doing so. Timothy McVeigh made a bomb, but most are unable or unwilling to go to the trouble. Guns make it too damn easy to kill, and to be perfectly on topic here, to mass-kill. Sheesh.
