Okay, I've been around the block a few times and if he has to decide between the Xbox or GameCube, go with the GameCube.

Why? Mario Sunshine, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 4, Star Fox, Metroid, Zelda, 1080, Mario Party.. These are ALL exclusives. Xbox has some nice games coming out, but the only one looking halfway decent is Shenmue 2, the other games are either going multiconsole or heading to the PC.

GameCube, at the moment and still in the near future, has the most potential.

X-Box, no regrets. GC is for kids. They may start with a GC but kids want more and X-box delivers. I am going to the factory in SLC next friday. I will see what those 200 games to be released by Christmas look like.

I bought an Xbox...and should have bought a PS2...the vast amount of games and Blockbusters 19.99 deal for a month can't be beat...hopefully Xbox will have more games for Xmas...cuz now...there isn't much out there that interests me..

Get the PS2...

Good stuff.

I don't understand all the people recommending X-Box in this thread. Umm.. this is for an 8-year-old. WTF? He didn't ask for a console YOU want.

My brother is 8 and he can barely pick 1 or 2 X-Box games he likes.

With our GC, on the other hand, we already got 6 games and he plays (and masters) them all. He's dying until Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Party 4 and Zelda come out.

I'm 21 and I prefer the Gamecube.

I wouldn't want a kiddy system, either. Most people here saying it's so much more child-oriented are just citing what they've heard. They probably can't support that claim, and don't realize that the Gamecube actually does have titles that are attractive to the older crowd. I like good games, and I like the games out for the Gamecube better than the Xbox.

The GameCube does have a line of games that are suitable to the younger crowd. However, that doesn't mean people of other demographics will not enjoy the games. I'm surprised half of you said the Xbox because it delivers? What exactly does it deliver? What do you guys have to look forward to?

Get an SNES emulator and play that. Since my SNES is in the attic, i've been reliving the good ol days of gaming on an emulator. There are like 2000 games for the SNES, and most are really good.

And who ever said Nintendo was for kids? Never has a game made me curse so much as Super Mario Kart!!

PS2 looks great outside, nothing beats Gran Turismo 3 / Tekken 4

if that is not an option then Xbox probably, I don't like FPS games and PGR has only 20 cars..., cube is kinda ugly and looks cheap

The bad thing about the X-box is that controllers are too big.

I agree that some of the GC games are geared to kids but that doesn't make them any less of a game.

I am 21 and I love my GC. I think it has some of the best games, such as SSX, Waverace, Luigi's Mansion, Rouge Leader, Crazy Taxi, Madden 2002, and Super Monkey Ball.

For a kid GC is probably the best choice.

XBox Controller S is small (though I still prefere the big ones... probably because I am used to them).

And XBox has SSX, Crazi Taxi, Madden 2002.

Now, don't get me wrong, GC is a good system. I think XBox beats it at the moment though except for the younger audiance.

I believe this post says it all. Mario? Zelda? Metroid? X-box can't compete with those proven names. When those games hit the shelves is when I'm picking up my Gamecube.

I have both as well. Metroid and Splinter Cell are at the top of my list for each console.

xbox rules but doesn't play games )

how can you ask a question like this?

Get ps2 and use the large PSX library and the great PS2 games, nothing beats this console until PS3.

Xbox may have graphics and I love it, games coded for it are easy ports for PC, take a look at the new MotoGP from THQ, lovely thing.
