x-fi drivers lost after reboot

I just purchased an x-fi xtreme music the other day. I installed the drivers just fine, but when I rebooted the "Found New Hardware wizard" showed up. For some reason, the drivers were no longer loaded, and Windows can't find the correct driver either. In the device manager, the card shows up as "Multimedia Audio Controller," and in it's device status it says "This device is not configured correctly." If I try to install the creative drivers in this state, I get an error that the required hardware is not present.

I was able to get the drivers to install one more time by shutting down, removing the x-fi, booting up without it, shutting down, putting the x-fi back in, and booting up. Then the card showed up as an x-fi in the device manager and I was able to install the drivers. Of course, as soon as I rebooted the driver didn't load again. I tried the same steps (removing the x-fi, rebooting, etc) but this time it didn't work - no driver again.

What the heck am I doing wrong? Good grief, installing drivers shouldn't be this hard! I'm reminded of the Win95 days...

i suggest u goto creative.com and dl the windows 64bit drivers

I had the same problem. What I discovered is that if I restarted, the sound card drivers would not show up. If I shut down completely, and then rebooted, it would work fine.

For some reason, it does not like restarts...

Ditto, and this is with the latest creative 64bit drivers.

I'm still having this problem. Has anybody found a solution?
