Oh man, I'm torn between starting up an X Reblance Mod or that X-Tension one. Have you tried both Mark?

While the bugs that are breaking the game can be fixed the problems with the game is more fundamental than just technical issues. I highly doubt they can fix it with some patches, its just too far away from well thought out game mechanics. The game is rubbish, you'll never want to buy it.
This is the game that's going to occupy my time spent waiting for Star Citizen.
I got a bunch of extras for pre-ordering, including a life-size cardboard stand-up of Lara that I still have in the original plastic and might throw on ebay some day.
Sure it wasn't a blow up doll of her? :sneaky:
Agreed. The feedback on the xuniverse forums is identical to what you're reading here. The problem is that the awful mechanics and design decisions have completely alienated the long-standing X-series fanbase, and yet the implementation of the new approach is so bad that it is unlikely to find any converts to create a new fanbase from. It reminds me of the situation with "Sid Meiers' Railroads" from Firaxis, although that title was _much_ more polished than X: Rebirth. You had a similarly loyal community, excited by what they heard, and then completely deflated by the crap that was delivered.
Btw, I decided to bail on the X Tended mod for X3, at least for now. I'm going to console myself with a vanilla campaign running some enhancements mods, and dream of some future space sim.
What happened with X Tended?
I was thinking that X: Rebirth was going to be my game into the X universe. Sounds like I should miss it. So, if I am new to the X universe what game would you recommend I play?
Just go with X3: TC or AP.
Let's say it all together, one more time, slowly....
"In this digital age there is no reason to pre-order anymore, ever".
I remember when I was young and finished Tomb Raider, and went to a game store to find a similar game (I was so addicted). To my utter surprise and delight Tomb raider 2 signs were up everywhere, and the clerk told me that many people had already ordered it; if I didn't I might have to wait a few weeks to get the game (maybe a lie, maybe not). I got a bunch of extras for pre-ordering, including a life-size cardboard stand-up of Lara that I still have in the original plastic and might throw on ebay some day.
That was pre-ordering done right.

-10% off retail price or free upcomming DLC is as good of a reason as any other.
It's quickly acquiring the nickname "X:Stillbirth".
lol
The sad thing is it looks just so darn pretty, there's a LOT of attention to detail with the space stations and ships.
It's just completely unplayable as a game.
Just go with X3: TC or AP.
I think I will still try Rebirth at some point--It was going to be a long time, anyway. after patches and sales. Hopefully there will be packs that fix whatever these problems are with mechanics. But you guys say that probably isn't possible....
Then again, it could all be an issue of taste. Civ 5 was roundly panned at release and while it seems to have gotten much better with xpacks, I think there is still a loyal contingent that really likes Vanilla.
You think? I've recently started up a playthrough of TC, and it's a lot harder on newbies then Reunion was. The plot kind of tosses you into the thick of it, and you've got 2 big problems: The only enemies you can fight reliably without pissing off a major race are pirates and Xenon. But in TC, the Xenon get those damned PBEs, and the pirates get PBGs. Both are death sentences in a light fighter, and even in a well armed M3 you better know what you're doing.
I wonder if the game has any hope in mods? Any indication of how moddable the game is?
I guess I might as well try it at some point, I did pre-order it after all. Sigh...
