Another X1800 vs. 7900GT thread?

Don't we have enough of these? I don't think it was finially decided in the other thread, but I really couldn't choose between the two either. I guess I'd have to go with the X1800XT. But just make sure you overclock it

The 7900GT is also a fine choice. All you have to do is get a conductive pen, a multimeter, a little time, better cooling system ($20-30), and away you go. With some patience you can get it to GTX+ speeds on the core and on the ram.

It's your choice.

I don't know, nor do I reallly care why you cannot currently obtain these cards in the USA, I DO know that USA consumers can pressure their retailers to start stocking them

Once again though, this isn't the real issue though, is it? This isn't really about availability it's about having a sly dig at gstanfor, especially when he presents a good alternative to an ATi product for perople to consider, isn't it?

Oh, and honestly about USA availability, some of really don't care, unlike some Americans I realise there is an entire world outside the USA - it's kinds of nice that the rest of us can get something nice before the 5000 pound gorilla does for once.

Again, no one was complaining that you can't get the cards in the US...point out where anyone was whining about not being able to get the card in the US?? I pointed out that the card you mentioned was not available in the US...that's it.

And "a sly dig at GStanfor"?? I think you're reading too much into what people post. I highly doubt that you nor I are regarded very highly on this forum. You presented a card that is an alternative for YOU maybe, but if it isn't available to the US then how does it benefit the OP?? If you like the card so much and want to benefit the entire forum then start a thread about it. Then people that are actually able to acquire the card can see if it's what they want.

To the OP, hope you like the card you bought. Honestly, you can't really go wrong with either card.

Yep, I went with the original manufacturer card instead of MSI .. I went with the ATI X1800XT 512MB.

another running point that I forgot to mention .. if I do get the KO, the fan will be just like my 7800GT I used to have.. It blows directly onto the back of my Audigy 2 ZS which heats up everything. With the new X1800XT I believe even though it runs hotter, it has the fan which blows OUT.. which hopefully will cool my PC in some sort of way and instead of blowing directly onto my sound card =/

I'm not much into overclocking.. so I guess the X1800XT is a better choice especially with the 512MB which will hopefully help on newer, future games.

and.. gstandfor.. I realize the entire world "outside" of the US. I actually travel alot too....
I've bought a few computer parts graphics cards ,etc from Hong Kong. The best place actually to get some sweet cells there too is in Sham Shui Po in HK. People might need to go there to get some good electronics. ^_^" Great place, love it there.

why do you say the 1900 has better iq than the 1800?

I am guessing he means you can enable more things with the X1900.
As in allover IQ, thats what we all want i guess.....

that's correct, it isolates the exhaust out the pci slot...my system stays MUCH cooler than the video card. The vid card fan shroud is developed so that the front intake case fans blow directly into the intake of the vid card fan and flows right through the sink and out the pci slot attached to the card. Good design I believe. The more intake in the case - the better for the card.

if u load up ccc (boos and hisses go here) and use the overdrive panel u can very easily overclock... my sapphire 512 goes to the tops of the sliders (+100mhz mem and core)with no problems... 9600ish 3d05 and 4200ish 3d06... very fast and very good looking... 2.5ghz a64 system...

a raging good deal with 2 games at nuevohuevo for $275 a couple weeks ago...

well, i haven't found the 1900xt to be so much faster that it allows you to run significantly higher IQ modes. you really need to go crossfire to be able to substantially crank up the "eyecandy", at least in games avail. now.

since the featureset it the same, there are no better IQ modes on the 1900xt over the 1800xt.

so i was genuinely curious as to why he said that.

Well americans putting up US prices is useless to me to what is your point? Do you even have one? Or are you having a dig by any means available?

Is it my problem that Gainward or Xpertvision cards are apparently not sold in the US/Canada? No. Hassle Newegg/whoever not me over that.

One wonders why you can't find Gainward cards in the USA given their past and current reputation for providing high quality overclocked/overclockable cards.

Overclockers UK has the gainward card available for $229.95 UK, according to xe.com that translates to $564.71 AU, AusPCMarket is selling the card for $540 AU before GST & freight.

The prices are very close are they not?

Hypothetically, if I knew that you lived in Australia and you asked a question about prices, I'd at least make an effort to look for Aussie prices to help you out.

No one complained to YOU that Gainward cards were not available in the US it was just pointed out that they weren't available. Your posting about those cards means nothing to the OP if you can't buy em in the US right?? I mean your post WAS intended to help the OP wasn't it?? And if it wasn't then why bother posting?

Again, the OP lives in the US (I think) so you comparing UK prices to Aussie prices is AGAIN useless. Compare to US prices and see the difference...I mean you took the time to look for a UK website so can't you take the time to look for a US website?? Of course that Gainward card is not available in the US so you'll have to compare something else.

Hey who's got your goat?, Gstanfor didnt know the cards were not available in the US and the OP wasnt asking for links to cards sales mate, just what peoples opinions were, chill....

I happen to agree with the claim for selcted chips that make Gainwards very competitive cards having owed several over the years.

I may get one myself!...LOL

Just been informed that Palit-Daytona cards used to sell quite well in the USA. Palit is the parent company of both Gainward & Xpertvision. Perhpas the statesiders will have some luck looking for the Palit-Daytona brand. Even if not, it should be a familiar brand to the like of Newegg and the other resellers and they should be able to arrange to order stock in for people (especially if enough express an interest).

Talk about having to other people's leg work for them!

That's fine that he didn't know but when I pointed it out I was accused of taking shots at him personally. I would have posted that they weren't available no matter who posted it.

Coming from you that's quite funny. I'm sure you've been accused of the same thing and you felt the need to put a disclaimer in your sig?? Anyone that posts anything against what you say is paid by ATi??

Ah well, whatever, the OP got whatever card he wanted so that's that.
