X1900XT: ASUS or HIS ICEQ3

Just as the title says, I'm ready to order today, and I can't decide if I'd rather have: stock cooling (and noise) with a 3 year warranty from a company I've dealt with and trust, or a kickass heatsink/fan from a company with a 1 year warranty, with whom I have no experience. Also, I've heard only bad things about HIS support, such as not being able to reach them, and them only having offices in Asia. Prices are roughly the same. Anyone have a suggestion? I'm leaning towards the ASUS...

I have an HIS X1900XTX with stock cooling thats been rock-solid & another X1900XTX ICEQ3 on the way from Newegg as we speak... also I've been in touch with HIS tech support with a question via e-mail & they replied pretty quickly, so while I'm sure you are correct about Asus support being better, I'd go with the ICEQ3 for the quieter cooler.

Asus has a 3 year warranty? I thought only the Built by ATI cards did?

I've heard Asus mobo support is terrible. Personally I'd get a Built by ATI card.

*Or I'd buy a used Sapphire OEM X1900XT for really cheap....

ATI only has a 1 year warranty now. I've had experience with ASUS mobo support, and it has been stellar both times. I wouldn't call $300 for a used OEM Sapphire cheap at all, considering I can get a brand new retail one for $350, or an open box for ~$300. Plus, I've heard more horror stories about Sapphire support than any other ATI partner, so they're out of the question. And I dont agree with the prices for BB ATI cards, especially with only a 1 year warranty.

Hmm, I guess ATI changed the warranty. That's crappy

And $300 is a good price, can you buy an X1900XT elsewhere for $300? I didn't think so. The card's 1 month old. Pay $50 more if you like, I don't give a sh!t, but get your facts straight.

No need for douchebaggery. I said I could find an open-box X1900XT for ~$300, which I can, but as the whole thread suggests, I'm interested in having a warranty of some kind, so thats out of the question.

Earlier this week, newegg has a new X1900XT for $290 after MIR. So no, I wouldnt call $300 cheap for a used X1900XT OEM either.

Have fun waiting 2+ months for that $100 MIR. Time is money buddy, time is money.

Thanks for the response. Anyone else?

ps. where did you have RMA it to? Is the delay because they've had it for so long, or because of the time in transit?

Everything about the RMA has been long. First, you can't send the card straight to them, but to either the retailer or the distributor. Well, I got mine at Monarch, and didn't pay them for the $50 warrantee so I had to RMA the card to the distributor, which is Lexy Pacific (lexycomp.com). They then sent the card to HIS for replacement, and HIS hasn't sent them the card back yet. Last time I talked to them HIS had approved the RMA and were shipping the card to them, but it hasn't gotten there yet. So, I'm still waiting... This was a $450+ card when I bought it, which I pretty much didn't even get to use during it's peak. I will never buy another HIS card ever again...

I wouldn't worry about HIS's RMA department if you buy it from Newegg. You can RMA it through newegg for a whole year and any card that's going to break, will probably do it within the first year.

Finger hovering on the "Checkout" button at newegg for the ICEQ3.... Anyone else have anything to add before I pull the trigger?

Just pull the trigger.

Newegg will handel the RMA. You send it USPS, gets there in 3 days, sent out in another 2 days with 3 day UPS. Completly painless.

Hehe, good buy BuckWild, I just got the same one last night. Hopefully it'll show up Friday rather than Monday.

I've never used HIS before, but I don't want a jet engine in my computer, and HIS had the only X1900XT with a non-stock cooler. Awesome price, too.
