X1900XT -> XFire or 1GB -> 2GB RAM?

I have an X1900XT and 1GB of RAM. Should i go for the Xfire card or buy 2x1GB sticks of RAM? Which would be more beneficial?

depends on the game...but i like to go for the highest possible without sacrificing fluidity. Newer games that usually means 1280. I have a CRT so i'm not bound to a certain res

If your using DDR ram right now I wouldn't invest any more into that. The Xfire will transfer over into your new DDR2 or DDR3 rig.

One X1900XT will be fine at 1600x1200 or below except for some of the newest games like FEAR and Oblivion with eye-candy turned up. Both of those games will run fine at 1280x1024 however. I was able to play both games with an oced XT (740/850) fairly well with only occasional slowdown at 1920x1200 and at least 2xAA.

At this point, I'd recommend 2GB of ram as it will smooth out some games that require it.

I am using DDR RAM, but I really don't see a need to upgrade my A8R32-MVP Deluxe + Opteron 165 for a while. I am pro-AMD and AM2 doesn't tickle my fancy.

Just FYI the RAM i was looking at is Corsair TWINX2048-3500LLPRO.

Get some more RAM, your graphics card is more than capable of handling 1280x960 and 1600x1200.

ram for sure, i dont see you upgrading your components anytime soon ie. cpu/mobo/ram once you get 2gb

I think you made a wise choice. I know I noticed a significant change when upgraded to 2GB last year. And with the newest games, it helps even more.

Hey guys,

sorry to hijack the thread, but i'm actually contemplating this same decision right now. Since it seems that most are suggesting the Ram upgrade...which 2gb set should I go with?

I'm currently considering the Mushkin Redline XP4000 991493, but i'm having issue paying almost $300 for ram.

Is there another set of sticks that have good timings with great overclockability for my setup?
