What do you think?

Trying to pick from 1900XTX or 7900GTX - love my games to have all the eye candy on and look great (graphics quality mean more than flat out speed to me) at 1600x1200.

Not interested in other cards or the 7950...

I have seen many reviews yes - what do you guys who already own them and use them think?

I have used neither so in my uninformed opinion:

XTX is (usually) faster and has slightly better image quality.

It also runs hotter than the GTX and the cooler is louder.

The XTX wins when you turn on all effects, AA, AF, and HDR. However, it's a hotter card.

Interesting way to set up a poll. But between these two cards the XTX gets the nod.

X1900XTX is the better overall performer, but it draws more power and runs hotter than the 7900GTX.

The XTX honestly isn't worth the extra Benjamin. It's maybe 5% faster than the X1900XT. Right now, you can get an ASUS X1900XT at newegg for $359.99. The cheapest X1900XTX is a MSI at $446.99 ($416.99 after rebate).

It's up to you, as it's your money and your computer, but I'd go for an X1900XT over a 7900GTX.

Yeah, I think the XT is much better buy than either of them. Pretty much all of them can overclock to the XTX speeds easily.

You can actuallyget a Sapphire XT for about $325ish. IIRC.

It seems that Newegg actually sold out on those, but the ETA is listed for next week so it shouldn't be too long a wait.

Having used both, I vote the X1900XT(X). It's just an all around better card for the money IMO. Neither is bad though, and you would be happy owning either one.

Nvidia's competitor to the XTX is the 7950GX2, and its nearest it's pricepoint, so that's not really a fair comparison. In that kind of fight, the GX2 would kick the XTX's keister.

Uhhhh

Cheapest prices I could find doing a quick search.

$570 7950 GX2

$440 7900GTX

$417AR X1900XTX

The 7950 GX2 may be a competitor but it is no where near the same price. Even the XTX's direct competitor, the 7900GTX, is more money at this point.

If I had the money I'd go with the 7900GTX. The 7900GTX almost always has equal or better performance than the X1900XT, and it has a very high quality heatsink that helps it stay silent and cool. I hate how hot ATIs new video cards run, for example, I had to mount a Zalman 7000 ALCU to my X1800XT to keep it running stable during these hot summer months, and the X1900XT is even hotter...

If you overclock your card shouldn't you expect to put an aftermarket cooler on it??

If you were running it at stock I doubt it would be unstable even in the summer. Granted the stock heatsink is louder but it stayed fairly cool when not everclocked didn't it?

The X1900XT performs better, looks better, and costs cheaper then the 7900GTX. Otherwise, you'd better savor those precious few dollars a month you have on your power bill.

Fixed.

Not trying to start a flamewar (although what X1900XTX vs. 7900GTX thread is without one) but most reviewers don't take into account the difference in driver settings when reviewing the newer cards. The reviewers that do try to even up the settings, show a different picture than the rest.

Yes, I did put an 3rd party heatsink on it, but the X1800XT was too much for my VF700 to handle. So I had to buy a CPU heatsink (Zalman 7000ALCU) which still has trouble keeping up with the heat.

With the stock heatsink and no overclocks my X1800XT would hit load temperatures around 80C, which is far to high in my opionion (not to mention the noise of the heatsink fan).

Personally I don't see the hype around ATI's "better image quality." They both look very nice to me (I actually prefer nVidia's AA), but I do agree that the 7900GTX stutters a lot more.

I have read that with ATI cards there's not option for scaling the resolution, and this pretty important to me, especially if I own a widescreen monitor; that's why I would go with the nvidia card.
