NVs drivers are still understated in their overall superiority to ATIs, esp with CCC around.
while it's fine your personal preference is for nv drivers (i too favor nv drivers), there is absolutlely nothing wrong with CCC (and if you really don't like CCC due to mem usage or slow load time, you can install w/o CCC).
Glad to see we agree.. its pretty tough not to on this one. As its blatantly obvious which is superior.
But for the best out of the box experience, NV is the way to go. To not use CCC and gain all the features of ATI is a pain.. and thats just not right.
Best OOTB experience is the way to go.
Not to mention you get a cooler/quieter/less power hungry card that has the SLI option. While the XTX only has Crossfire (which isnt as good as SLI) and runs at XT speeds when using Crossfire.
heh.. a 7900GT is not quiet by any stretch of one's imagination.
Certainly no louder than that X1900 dustbuster. Still very quiet though.
I've owned a 7800GT, 7900GT and 7900GTX. The GTX cooler is the best in the industry hands down. But the GT is a great budget solution, and not loud.
Also, the vendors for Nvidia cards are vastly superior.
Evga/XFX/BFG are impossible to beat. Lifetime warranty, with proven excellent service from BFG and Evga.
XFX? lol.. just google XFX and you will fine pages of complaints.
EVGA does indeed have good service, however they've been selling broken cards for months (self-admittedly).
BFG I'd concur. I've had 3 of their products (still have 2) and the 2 times I've had contact with them they were excellent.
Well I dont like XFX that much either. I only personally buy Evga and BFG due to great past service from both.
But XFX does have double lifetime warranty, something no ATI card offers.
I dont know about you, but I really like the idea of a great warranty, from companies that are VERY fast when I spend $400+ on a video card.
Sapphire and Powercolor have top notch service as well (I've actually used Powercolor's, and there were as professional as BFG).
Yup but with ATI you have two choices.
Buy a HIS with quiet factory cooler and get horrible service and warranty (1 year). Or get another brand on the ATI side and get the dustbuster with a lifetime warranty, of which you void when you replace the cooler.
With Evga or BFG, you dont need to make those compromises.
Lifetime warranty is FAR more useful than slightly better AF. Not much good if your card dies and you dont see ANY AF
This stuff is simply getting too expensive to be paying $400+ for and NOT getting a lifetime warranty and a quiet cooler.
I refuse to buy anything NOT from Evga or BFG if its my buck. I want that warranty and I dont care if its ATI or Nvidia.. not getting anything else.
Thats how great Evga and BFG are.
unfortunate for you; though that statement does show your bias and narrow point of view.
Wrong. Evga and BFG ARE great. Thats not a narrow point of view, do a search and see what people think of those two companies product/service.
Its too bad EVGA or BFG dont support ATI, many people stand by me on that statement. Nothing narrowminded there, unles you dont like the truth.
The IQ differences are miniscule, to exaggerate the issue.
while the rest of you post was simply biased, this statement is a lie. having pc's with a 6800gt and 7800gs right next to me, the difference is easily noticeable. i'd even go as far as to say 90% of the people on these forums who have had both products would agree with me.
Yeah and I've had far more Nvidia cards than you have and I'm telling you the IQ difference isnt worth stabbing yourself samuri-style in the stomach for, at all.
And Nvidia has superior AA with 8xS (which does texture and geometry AA). In the end, IQ is generally considered a wash. And the NV drivers have been proven to do more "work" on a given scene than ATI (which skimps and attempts to skate off as easy as possible).
hmm.. angle dependant AF, lower quality default modes.. perhaps you should check your facts again.
Wow, slightly better AF.. and lowe quality default modes? Who cares? Thats why we have adjustments in the drivers.. are you not capable of setting the IQ and performance to your liking? The way its setup by default runs great.. in fact all optimizations are turned off by default in the 84.21s that I run.
Its also nice along with having the great service/warranty, to have a card you dont need to change the heatsink/fan units on because they are already quiet. Esp the GTX.
i'm running my stock heatsink, fan (while overclocking ) and am doing just fine, thank you. that said, the GTX does have an elegant cooling solution, if you're willing to dish out that kind of money to get the same performance possible with the GT.....
Yeah and if you watercool a REALLY cheap video card you might be able to match the GT performance, who cares? I want my warranty intact when I spend $500 on a card.
Not a minimal performance improvement. Though I believe Evga does support overclocking under their warranty. Im happy with my cards performance and the cooler is very nice as well.
To each their own, but this thread wouldnt have any justice done to it if someone hadnt mentioned the difference between the two products warranty and vendor support. Its very important to me, and I'm sure to others also.
