Do I have to do anything to set the cpu up to be recognized as a dual processor? When I run CPU-Z under Processor Selection it shows a greyed out area with "CPU #0 (Core 0). Is this correct? As you can tell from my previous post I am a newbie and need all the help I can get.
Thanks

I am on a Asus A8V Deluxe board running the latest 1014 bios update. Everything I read appears that it's supported. Do I need to change anything in the bios?

it may have something to do with windows. also, you should be running 1014, because it is the most stable dual core bios. im not really sure what to do, but a lot of people have had experience in what to do with windows. is this a new windows install, or an old one?

It's not a fresh install. I just reloaded my previous set up and upgraded the drivers. I wonder if there is setting in windows that needs to be changed?

I am running version 1.30. Processor name shows as AMD Athlon 64 X2. Under specification it has AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+. Under Processor Selection it is grayed out and shows CPU #0 (Core 0). Any suggestions?

Does Windows recognize that you are running a multi processor?
In Device Manager under Computer it should say something like ACPI Multi Processor
If it doesn't update the driver for the processor and select the Multi version.

It says "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC". Where would the driver for this be? On my Asus CD? I am also running cool & quiet. Is that okay?

Just go to control panel.. system - Device manager - computer - properties

select ' update driver ' and choose 'multiprocessor '

I hate seem stupid. But the wizard can not locate that driver. I am going to computer than clicking properties on the ACPI device that appears. But it will not find the multiprocessor driver. Help?

Found the following on the AMD forum. anybody have any comments? Does this mean I have to reinstall evrything?

^^yes. although i think that if you've already updated to advanced configuration and power interface, that you cannot update to Multiprocessor PC without a new installation, and using the f5 key and choosing ACPI Multiprocessor PC

I would gladly reformat my computer for an X2 processor. I would gladly take that X2 off your hands if reformating is such a pain for you.......

If you do a Ctrl-Alt-Del you should have the Task Manager Window come up.

Go to Performance and if your X2 is recognized as a dual core, there should be two graphs under the CPU Usage History.

Right-click Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC --> Update driver... --> Search windows update for software: NO --> Install from a list (advanced) --> Do not Search --> ACPI Multiprocessor PC and do next 'till you finish. I cant test it myself since I dont have an X2 yet , but it should work. If you've already tried it just ignore me.

Hope that helps, if you need me to explain something further just ask.

After posting and trying everyone's suggestions I bit the bullet and did a "CLEAN INSTALL" like I should have done in the first place. OS is XP PRO. The only thing I did different from the install prompts was hard code the "ACPI MULTIPROCESSOR" during set up by hitting "F5". Not sure if I had to do it, but since it let me I did. Everything seems to be running fine. CPU-Z is now showing (2) cores along with task manager. Thanks again for everyones input. It was appreciated.
