X2 vs WoW

Hi again,

Awhile back I posted on the x2 game issue thread since I was having problems with quite a few games. I've since been able to get every game running smoothly aside from WoW. I have isolated it as the cpu because if I plop in my 3700+ sandy everything runs smooth like it should. I'm running it on a dfi nf4 sli-dr with the 6.23 bios

Basically what happens is when I am moving everything that loads into view does it in an extremely choppy way instead of nice and smooth. It's annoying enough that I can't play with the x2 =(

I have installed the x2 driver, set affinity, video drivers from the 78 series up to 81.85 beta, etc and nothing changes. If anyone has any idea's I'd be happy to try them.

Thanks

I had a wierd problem before with games skipping frames and going at warp speed, or the timer suddenly breaking and me being unable to do anything anymore until I power down for a while. Funny thing is, replacing my first replacement HSF for my motherboard with the NB47J fixed that. The issue is now gone completely for me. So I don't know your circumstances, but if nothing else worked for you, well, try giving it a shot. Just make sure the HS works with your mobo if you do try it.

EDIT: my mobo temps are also lower by 2C on the sensor, meaning it should be reduced even more than that on the chipset since the sensor's supposedly somewhat distant from where it's actually supposed to be.

Somebody also reported a strange problem with sound drivers. Check all the posts in the two threads on the issue. When they fixed the sound drivers, the problem was gone !!!

I guess if all else fails I can swap heatsinks, however I doubt heat is an issue since it idles around 32c

I'll try without a soundcard installed and report back later, I don't play WoW with sound anyway =)

Dude. Everything works for me too except WoW. I've done everything, fresh windows install, formatting, reinstalling, c'n'q enabled and disabled, the hotfix, freshest vid, processor, sound, and bios drivers, used ROPE and WinlaunchXP to set affinity, and I've done every possible combination of the above. Nothing f%cking works.

I really don't get it.

My problem in WoW is I can play for anywhere from 10 minutes to 4 hours and it does one of 3 things:

1) Locks up and sits there and won't let me do anything. Sometimes I can move my mouse, sometimes I can't.

2) Goes to a black screen and just hangs and I have to hit my reset button on my case.

3) Magically restarts my computer. As if I just clicked my restart button.

Please help with any suggestions..............

Check the DFI bios site that the bios you have does not have the dual core bug they accidentally introduced.

I know that 704 does not (that's the one I am using), 628 didn't either I think, but can't say on 623.

If you follow the revisions list, one of the fixes listed is 'fix dualcore performance'

one member here had a persistent problem with lineage that he eventually fixed by doing all the above (x2 driver, msft patch and deleting the "pmtimer" from the boot.ini

may be worth a shot.

Download Fraps, and record while you are playing...and see if that temp. fixes the problem.

These sound like driver issues. I have had no problems with WoW, so I have to assume it is something other then the processer. Did you do a freash install with the X2? Ploping in and out a single and dual core chip might be giving Windows a fit. Just the nature of the problem (video rendering) makes me believe it is not a cpu issue.

Sorry about the delay in responding.

I format everytime I change something so yes it was a clean install.

No sound card didn't help, no driver I could find helped, and I also noticed the 80+ series drivers make water in WoW flash on and off (turns black for a second) nonstop.

Just going to use my 3700+ until I figure it out eventually

I visited with a fellow over at dfi last night and he said you should have the current bios 6-23...this is just second hand info...

BIngo.....This is not a cpu issue...It is a driver issue either caused by MS (as admitted with their fix), by the games themselves (since other games do not suffer same results), or other hardware on the machine...

Fact is if only one guy gets it to work then it isnt the cpu but instead user...not necessarily user fault but user has something he has not done that the other guy did do....

Plus I have seen list in other forums of ppl saying what worked and WoW was on some of those list, so others are also having no problems....

Good luck solving it.

By the way what is your sound card you are using?? Can you try using the onboard audio if you are not currently and see if that helps...

I don't blame the x2 itself but since it's related to the x2 I put it in the title. Until I figure out the conflict it's just not playable.

I have an x-fi I got from work cheap, however its not the cause since I did a fresh install with no sound whatsoever and I still had the issue.

I'll keep trying until I get it to work =P

Back then with Wow i had some lag and slowdowns, i think i might have fixed it by turning off vsync in nvidia panel. I have to turn on vsync for mvp baseball 2005 because that would go too fast. Maybe it might work.
