X300 solution enough?

Okay so I was just wondering if the x300 cards are enough to support an lcd monitor and the use of just basic video/photoshop. I also wanted to know whats the cheapest cpu that I can get for a lot of multitasking(mainly photo shop/internet/music). Would a celeron d be sufficient? I mainly want to know if the x300 would cut it for just the basic video and lcd support. I don't game at all so don't worry about that. Thx.

The X300 ought to be more than good enough. A Celeron D is probably slower than you want to go, even though they're wicked cheap. They're only single core, with minimal cache. One of the lower speed Pentium D's would provide significantly better performance, since Photoshop is multithreaded, even at a lower clock speed, as well as generally better multitasking.

Okay so if I have this mobo from newegg, would i still need the x300 card since it's already the onboard graphics of the board listed? i guess what I'm asking is if this has the onboard x300 graphics, does it also have a port on the back that would allow a hook up to an lcd monitor?

you'll be limiting yourself w/only 2 dimm slots ...get a more robust mobo..

The graphics would be sufficient quality I think. However it has a VGA port, not a DVI port. Make sure your LCD has a connection that that would work on, which most do.

As ScrapSilicon mentioned, you would be limiting yourself with only 2 memory slots, since if you later wanted to upgrade the amount of memory available you would have to completely replace the memory. You could just buy a large amount of memory now, and hope that's enough for the future. It would possibly be cheaper though to get a mainboard with 4 slots and a separate video card.

thx for the replies again. Keep in mind this computer is for my friend that doesn't game at all, so wouldnt need more than a gig of mem. and just wants a card that will support standard video play and lcd hook up. My main concern about the board is if there is a hook up on the back of it that will hook up a crt/lcd monitor because it has the integrated x300 graphics.

It has a 15 pin VGA output for the onboard graphics, of course.

X300 is not a bad card at all.

I'm using several SE models on various rigs. If you are not a gamer, it is an excellent choice, and the price is definitely right.

when you first said cheap computer my first thought is something onsale otd @bb for about $300 to 500 but then you said multitask w/ photoshop in the mix.. 1 gig of memory is not really conducive to what you've asked of it ..
