X3370 cheaper than q9650, deal?

Hi guys,

For a rampage formula (s775) system I was looking for the q9650. However, i have found the x3370 new for less than 300 usd, but...it's not in the rampage formula list in comparison with the q9650. It's strange, all the s775 are mentioned on the list except the xeons?

Is there a catch?

Ive been running that puppy b4 they came out for the public.

yes they will work in ANY LGA775 board. its the identical thing to a Q9650.

Xeons are meant for servers, but are nothing more then higher binned desktop chips. Since they are sold as a server cpu, most motherboard's don't list them on their compatability chart...but as aigomorla stated, it's a Q9650.

Where did you find it? I'm sure there are many forum users who would love to have that chip below $300....myself included.

Sounds like a nice deal. However, my understanding is that not ALL 775 boards support penryn, especially yorkfields. some older boards, wont even support conroes. many C2D boards needed a flash to support wolfsdale. I know my old 680i LT does not support yorkies, and needed flashes for the wolfsdales.

However, you should be fine. Since it is still a Q9650, and your board already works with the Q9450, it should work, would be a nice upgrade for high overclocks.

Uh, I wish I would of read this before I bought my second Q9650 yesterday.. which I have no problem returning for a better deal on a higher binned X3370

sorry to dissapoint you but i live in Europe/Belgium and for once i found a webshop that has these at a lower price than in the us Intel Xeon X3370 Xeon® Processor X3370, LGA775, Bus Speed 1333 MHz, 12 MB L2 Cache , they ship internationally however
