It seems they have the same cores. Is the fan any better on the xt? If the Pro could be flashed to a XT that would be one hell of a deal for $ 200 bucks.

check a few reviews...either way ppl can only tell when the card is in their hands!!

id imagine they'd be able to overclock it nicely

The XT has GDDR3, vs the Pro and vanilla that only have regular I guess. But I agree, I really want to see some ocing done of the pro and vanilla, since the number of shader and pixel piplines are the same, they could both be pretty nice bang for buck cards.

Well, I just checked out the ATI site, and apparently the PRO has GDDR3 as well, so its probably just cheaper ram, as it is set at 860 rather than 1000. The cores still look the same to me though, it would be interesting to see how much performance increase is possible.

If the x700 Pro 256MB flashes to the x700XT, we'll be in for quite a treat.

I think the Pro = XT core, but Pro has 256MB RAM and lower core/mem speeds.
The only thing you would need to do would be overclock the X700Pro core and mem and if they hit XT speeds, you would have an XT, but AFAIK, the XT is a 128MB card and the Pro a 256MB card, but they are the same price, so there's no point unless you think you will need the extra 128MB RAM, might as well get an XT for the same price with the higher clocks....

From Anandtech:
Oddly, this time around there are two $200 versions of the card. The X700 XT (which we are testing today) has 475/1.05 core/mem clocks and 128MB of RAM. The X700 Pro will launch with 420/864 core/mem clocks and 256MB of RAM
So unless the extra RAM will help much, I don't see why you would want to risk needing to OC when you can get a higher spec card (clock wise) for the same price....

beyond3d has a review up, here is the oc they got on a x700pro. Very different results from Anatech for the 9800 pro. (looking at anatechs review of the x700xt)

I have the x700 pro just to let you know, I havent really done much overclocking on it, cause the lack thereof information on overclocking it. Ive overclocked it just a little bit not much, I migh overclock it more extensively, but I really plan on returning the card. But it is a good card, but I would prefere the 6600 gt. With the new beta drivers though im getting 50fps on doom 3 on the doom 3 test, so it's not bad.

You do realize that you've lost your warranty after OCing your card?

I dont think it applies in my case, im not doing any hardware overclocking, im using software to bump up the speeds a bit. Im pretty sure it only voids the warranty if your videocard dies because of overclocking.

Thanks ronnn, thats a pretty sweet looking oc, could make me change my mind about the 6600gt. Still hard to say though, as 6600gt's also are supposed to OC well.

Pro = DDR and slower clocks (Unleaded Regular)
XT = GDDR3 and faster clocks ( Nitro Burning Funny Car!!) j/k

XT will be a lot quicker that a pro in THIS case.

Based on this, there is a definate possibility of getting to xt speeds. This would be a good card for under $200.

I think the real question for overclockers is, xt700pro 256 @ 500/1100 or 6600gt 128 @ 550/1200. I have seen both of those OC speeds on the internet. So it is kind of a question of whether SM 3.0 or 256 ram will help more in the future.

it looks like the XT is pretty much faster than the Pro. As for flashing, there is none - The pro is just an underclocked XT with 256MB. You could overclock, but I've heard that X700s don't have too much overclocking potential. All in all, if you're gonna get one, get the XT. However, I'd still recommend the 6600GT over them both - slightly better performance, better overclocking (600/1200 is pretty easy to do), and it has SLI and PS3.0. In fact, the XFX dual-DVI version runs a default of 500/1200, giving it almost as much memory bandwidth as a 6800, and only runs $187.

Whoa 1200mhz ram, i wonder if they're using 1.6ns memory or just overclocked 2.0ns. I know which 6600gt im getting now.
