Sorry if this has been answered, but what exactly is the impetus from ATI/sapphire's point of view to sell $350+ parts for $200?
Is it that big a deal that they get rid of excess inventory before the r520 hits? Sounds to me like it would be counterproductive, anyway- those in the market for a high performance card would have gotten an x850xt pe for a mere $200, leaving little room for a new r520 in their system...unless the performance promised in the sell sheets is really accurate (ie, the x1800xt beating the 7800GTX by 80% in the FEAR demo, amongst other games).
I dunno, guess it sounds like a big waste- on paper, the GTO2 is the same as the x800GTO (same clocks and pipelines), so for the average PC user it would make no sense at all- a more expensive card, being exactly the same?
I'd have thought that simply pricecutting the x850xt pe range of graphics cards to around the 250ish level would have been a better idea, as there would still be the rush to buy, however EVERYONE would recognise the quality of the parts, rather than selling an absolute bargain at $200, however only a select few internet-dwelvers knowing of the potential of the card, and its true identity as an x850xt pe.
