X800pro or 6800GT? ***POLL***

For all the 12 vs 16 pipe people.
I'm going to get a 2.4GHz Celeron because it's better than any AMD, because AMD only goes up to 2.2GHz.
Celeron has a bigger number, so it's better.

Its not what u can buy or what u cant its whats better !! and the thing about 12 Pipelines Vs 16 Pipelines is the same as the Radeon 9800 8 Pipelines VS Geforce FX 4 Piplelines ... the 8 piped 9800 Pro is better.

Same goes for this time around. the cards are close but the Geforce GT 6800 is better!

ummm, the x800 Pro is meant to compete with the 12 pipeline 6800 non ultra. since there are no benchies, its hard to justify calling it a crap brox.

just imagine the demand when/is someone figures out how to unlock those extra 4 pipes

it was available for $360 something at techdepot and available for $370 at CDW and this is considering they have limited stock. by the time the GT comes out, i'm sure i can get a X800 pro for closer to $300 than closer to $400

the price tag maybe different, but ATi had no idea about a 6800 GT so how could they make a card that is supposed to compete against something they dont know

Agreed! I vote for x800 pro,
because image quality is important to me, aa/af with higher res and newer games are also very important to me as well, that's where x800 pro beats 6800gt.
Ati's 3DC technology is also very important to me too, it improves image quality drastically,


besides I don't trust nvidia and most benchmarks anymore, for 2 years nvidia hasn't changed much in their drivers, most of their drivers degrades image quality to improve fps or has cheats.

I voted 6800 just because of ATIs crappy drivers. I've come as close as removing the side panel and disconnecting the power cable in order to crack my 9800Pro over my knee, but I'm trying not to go any farther until I can get a 6800 at a reasonable price.

I respect your opinions, but for me it was opposite for the past 1 1/2 years I had more problems with nvidia drivers than ati's drivers,
Maybe you had bad experiences like me with ati's drivers in the past , But ever since they came out with new catalyst drivers and 9700/9800 pro's , their drivers are much more stable now compared to back then.

Bunch of people over at futuremark have gotten their x800 pro's and they seem to be ocing very well. The few posts I've seen, guys are getting 550+ on the core with stock cooling and the crazy people with dry-ice crap are seeing 700+. One guy has his benched at 714/624 I think it was. Anyway, everyone is talking up the GT as the overclocker of the 2 but it seems the x800 is no slouch either.

So the question is, can an x800 pro (12 pipes) at 550ish beat a GT (16 pipes) at 450ish. My guess is that just like all the good reviews showed, nvidia wins in ogl, ati wins d3d, thats just a guess though.

Not just in the past, I "upgraded" to the 4.5's hoping they finally fixed Call of Duty, and not only is it still bugged but they broke Medal of Honor as well:disgust: So now I'm back using the 4.4's and waitin on a 6800. I'll grant that my 9800Pro experience has been better than when I had my 8500, but I've had enough.

That is exactly what happened to Nvidia with the 6800U. They didnt expect ATI's top card to be above the specs for the pro card. It's all just marketing strategy and analysis. A very good time for gamers indeed!

Pipelines dont differ as drastically in efficiency like clock cycles in a cpu differ.

My votes on the 6800GT. I think I will go with the 16 pipelines....and perhaps a watercooling set up . When (no IF) I have the cash I would like a A64 939 and a nF3 250, this justifies the choice i think.

Erm....well there was the 40 series that gave me a nice 20% boost all round on my Ge3Ti200 - no image quality chages I could see. Oh, and the 50 series with that shader compiler giving a huge performance boost with shaders and again, no odvious image quality decreases.

Yes nVidia have been caught cheating, but if they are not caught cheating again then no one should judge nvidia on the basis they are cheating anymore. ATi have been caught cheating in the past - that all apears to have blown over- lets just hopethe same happens for nVidia.

it competes at the $399 pricepoint, and therefore whatever card in that price range.

ati has stated the 4 unused pipes are actually "cut", so they will not be useable (unless of course ati is just saying that).

the # of pipes mean nothing by themselves w/o considering the rest of the architecture; the 4 pipe 9600xt is faster than an 8 pipe 9500pro; the 4 pipe nv35/38 is competetive with the 8 pipe r3xx. the reason the r3xx is faster is not due to the # of pipes, rather the shader power.
