X850XT issues...

I just got a new MSI X850XT today and Ive had 2 lockups when Im playing games...ill be playing for a good 20-30 minutes, the game will just lockup and a blue screen will come up, nothing else though, just a blank blue screen and looping sound clips....anyone know what could be the issue?

I had this issue with my X800XT PE and I ended up having to RMA.

I just started getting this error too?! I play FarCry a lot... sometimes it will blank blue screen (with weird sound clips) after 2 min... and sometimes it will happen after 20-30 minutes. Occassionally, I can Ctrl + Alt + Del out and get back to Explorer, and sometimes the PC just freezes up (forcing me to manually reboot). The FarCry error log (which usually works very well) doesn't log the errors, making me believe it isn't the game (software) at fault. I also have an X850XTPE card. I currently have my PC running at ALL default speeds, NO overclocking whatsoever. I have ran Prime95 (to test my CPU) for 10+ hours with no problems. I have ran MemTest86+ (to test my RAM) for 10+ hours with no errors. I did a clean install of Windows on a new Hard Drive (with a new SATA cable). The problem still exists... so possibly it is the video card Very Upsetting... I guess I will take the cooler off, clean it, reapply AS5, and reseat the cooler tonight. Hopefully that will fix the problem...

Hmmm - I've got the same card and have never had a problem in games... What video driver versions are you guys running?

Well Ive been playing some games a lot now and havent had any crashes yet so it coulda been just a fluke because its a new card and all...

It is not overclocked, and Im running a 350w PSU that came with my shuttle...

It could be a software problem. Catalyst 5.8 gave me problems and wouldn't let me load up GTA:SA for example.

I suggest you getter a high rating PSU. 350W is the bare minimum requirement of the X850XT. do you have a lot of additional peripherals(ie. harddisk, cdroms etc)???

try getting something like an Antec 400W+ PSU.

Ditto. I'd suggest AT LEAST 400-420 Watts to run an X850XT, from a branded PSU unit, something among the lines of Antec, Fortron, Seasonic to name a few. There's probably 5 persons a day requesting help choosing a new power supply in the General Hardware forum, you can look for some advise there.

I cant buy another PSU, Im on a shuttle system I am not drawing too much power though

just 1 HDD, Floppy, DVD-RW, no PCI cards or any external periphals, just my X850XT

Ive been playing with this car strenuously for a few days now and I havent had a BSOD yet, all is fine now.

I have the exact same problem!! I bought my Visiontek x850xt PE last Wednesday and thus far got 2 blank blue screens (1 in FarCry and 1 in Dungeon Siege2). I have gone hours without a screen and one time it was like 20 minutes before the blue screen came up. ATI tech support is telling me that is may be power related. Interesting since I have a 480W Antec TruePower powersupply! My specs are:

Pentium 4 3.0ghz
Abit IC-7
Visiontek XTASY RADEON X850XT PERFORMANCE EDITION
1GB PC4000 DDR
SB Audigy 2
Maxtor 160GB 7200 rpm drive
Lite-On DVD-RW
Plextor CDRW
----
Windows XP Pro (SP2)
Radeon 5.8 drivers.

My system draws max 355watts at 85% efficient power from supply. So I know it isn't a power issue.

I had a 9800XT in there, removed it, put the x850xt pe in there and started gaming. Then the blue screens.

Let me know if you figure out the problem..

Ive had this for a week now and haven't had it once occur on me, and Ive been playing on 2-3 hour runs for the past few days...

About 2 weeks after I got my X800XT PE, I had the occasional solid blue screen lockups in Painkiller. I never saw another blue screen lockup for about ~8 months. Then they started happening only in certain games (star wars republic commando, world of warcraft). I tired a clean install of windows and the blue screens continued.

I decided to switch over to an A64 system at around this time and figured I'd go with an AGP board and see if the problems would go away. Same solid blue screens with a completely new set of components. At this point I switched to PCI-E and got a 7800GTX and RMA'd the card back to ATi. ATi sent me a new card and the problems are gone.
