umm x86 does not belong ot Intel... its a standard developed by intel (correct me if i'm wrong please) and yes, athlon adopts that standard, as does p4.
x86 is the generic name for the instruction set, which is why both AMD and Intel (and others) chips can run the same software. Intel calls it's family IA-32 officially i think. But both Athlon and Intel p4 families are x86.
