Is this going to increase the cost? I can't imagine the cost going up three years in or however long it is.

This would be perfect for me depending on the cost!

I just recently bought a 1080p device and when I move out of current arrangement all I'll have is a wii.

How are they going to handle the BR drive speed with games like GTA4 and stuff? I don't understand why they are doing this. I must be purely for movies which I could care less about in HD.

I guess it could read DVDs faster than Blu-ray discs.

If they do do it, it will have to read DVDs at the same speed the current drives do. It should also only be able to use Blu-Ray for movies. There's no way they can start publishing games on two different formats three years into the console's life.

Does blu-ray drives read dvd discs? If they do, microsoft might still keep producing their games on DVD's (that's the format now right?) they haven't produced any games in HD DVD i believe so technically there's no foul in this assuming the former to be true. It would just allow the xbox to play blu ray discs and I guess, if needed, produce games on it.

PS3's bluray drive reads dvds. I doubt MS would publish games on bluray as that would alienate millions of established gamers.

Bluray drives can read dvd discs.

Liteon who I believe Microsoft is now contracted with to make drives for the 360 has a bluray drive that reads bluray discs at 4x and dvd-9 at 8x. Don't remember what the 360 is able to read at.

And No Microsoft will not allow anyone to publish games on bluray. Besides it would be moronic to do so. The 360 base will probably be 20million+. Doing a bluray only 360 game would severely limit your market.

I believe the current 360 drives read at 12x for single layer discs and 8x for dual layer DVDs.

No, what he means is grammar nazis are annoying and should DIAF! If you don't have anything to say on topic then you don't post.

I'm really curious to hear a price on this. And now that they're planning a built in one in a new console, I wonder if an external one is also in the works.

Will people be suckered into this like they were suckered into the original XBox360 and got such a shoddy product? I wouldn't do it given MS's track record in console hardware.

What's the point of making this built in if games can't even take advantage of it?

How many XBoxes have you gone through? Do you really trust MS to make decent hardware after this debacle? IMHO, I would wait for someone else to make a BD product for the 360. Hell, it's probably better to get a PS3 instead.

I was about to trade in my first gen 360 premium for an elite, but I guess I'll wait for the BD360.

I've had as many Xbox 360s die as I had PS2s die - 1. Disc read error on the PS2, RRoD on the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 failure cost me $0 and I was without my 360 for 0 hours. I trust Microsoft hardware as much as I trust Sony hardware, considering I've had $2000 worth of Sony hardware die (prematurely, but out of warranty).

Now please, stop trolling. This thread is about the possibility of Blu-ray on the 360, not the RRoD.

If they don't use the Blu-Ray drive for games, then I really don't see the point. If they added ANOTHER SKU to the mix, it would be really confusing for customers. Would make sense if they just released another add-on, similiar to the HD-DVD drive.

What *would* make sense is to release the BD drive as an external add-on, but allow it to read game discs as well. That way, when future titles are released on multiple discs, you could just pop in the second disc to the external drive and play away. Or, have two different games. Technically, this probably wouldn't be feasible, since an external drive would most likely be slower than the internal drive.

I want MS to release a BD add-on. I want BD pretty badly, but I don't want to spend $400 + tax for a PS3.

Are current 360 games HD-DVD? Can blu-ray read those? Or was the 360 HD-DVD only ever for movies?

I'm excited the war is over, but I'm not sure I'm happy with the winner, I've heard the only appreciable difference was the a bluray had 1 more DRM layer.
