Xbox Live ALTERNATIVE, and it's free

Please don't flame, I didn't see a video game group.

This is an ALTERNATIVE to Xbox Live. Hence the message title. Xbox Live rocks, this is not a debate over which is better.

Xbconnect.com has software that runs on your computer allowing you to play online games, just like Xbox Live.
Just connect your xbox to a hub/router.

It allows you to play Halo too!
The only downside is that you can't play the Sega games.


Gamespy Arcade allows the same thing, although I've had more lag while using it.
And it doesn't let you play UC.


Both are freeware and have pay upgrades. And both allow communicator support.

So it uses your PC as a proxy to fool around your XBOX into believeing you are playing an oppenent on the LAN .

you just hook your xbox up to your router. IT has a 10/100 conection in it. This is an awesome cheap option. Too bac they dont support NFL2k3 but they support other games that xblive doesnt like heat2002. good find

Actully you can play UC on gamespy but there is no channel for it. I was doing it last night. They are usually located in the halo room. Any live game can be played on Gamespy or Xbconnect as long as the game supporst system link play. You can use the communicator too. I like live I dont think this is a replacement for it for one simple reason. LAG. ms says its not p2p and i have to tend to believe them casue i get lag liek a bitch on Mech assult on xbconnect or game spy. but I dont on ms. I was a beta tester from first wave all they way throrough 3rd wave. and am now retail and i am happy. Yes I like to play halo on line but halo 2 will be enabled and that will be the shizzy and what problems are you having with nfl2k3 i can play it fine. on xbconnect and gamespy

X-box is way better than xboxconnect, You get voice communication with live, downloads, including updates for games. Live will also put you up against a oppenent with a similiar skill level. If live supported halo then it would be 5 stars, but its 4 and half now.

At first I thought the voice thing was just a gimmick, but it totally makes the experience IMHO.

Yes it is an alternative but its definatly not as good. For Halo and other system link only games its great but for Live compatible games you cant even go close to saying its a good alternative. Playing games on live is virtually lag free and you also get voice communication.
