XBOX MN-740 + WRT54G

Hello,

I picked up a MN-740 wireless bridge for my xbox recently at target on clearance, and hooked it up to my relatively new wireless g network handled by my wrt54g.

My problem is that whenever I configure the bridge, it seems to work fine, but after about 10 minutes, my entire network will go down.

I've had the bridge disconnected now for several days and the network works great, but when I hooked up the bridge again, it went down again.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Well it's obviously a problem with the bridge so let's start from there.

1. Have you updated it's firmware?
2. When it takes the network down can the attached client still see the bridge?

to answer your questions, yes, the firmware is updated to the newest revision from microsoft, and no, when the network goes down no device can see the network, not even the xbox. When the bridge is disconnected, the other computers come online after about a minute or so, without resetting the router.

I may have to take it back to target and do a switcher-oo but I think I don't have the reciept. I was just wondering if anyone else has encountered the problem, but endless searching has turned up nothing.

The really funny thing is that if I configure it on the xbox and move it to a computer immediately and hook it up, it works great.

Sounds like your bridge is broken. Supposedly Microsoft is really good about hardware support so I would contact them next and see if they will do anything. If not, I hope you can find your receipt.

ok this is my experience. #1 you can NOT lock it down via MAC address as it'll change constantly. Also you must BROADCAST your ESSID even though it's not good practice to. Personally I've never get another one of these things. Anyway it works currently.

anyway to get wpa to work with this combination, or possibly to have the router use wpa for one set and wep for this? (I know there are other firmwares for it as it was open sourced, maybe one of them can do that?)
