The DC controllers aren't the best for sure, but you get used to them. Try the Madcatz Dreampad for a great alternative... it is very comfortable.

1. Gamecube
2. Xbox
3. Dreamcast
4. PS2

That is how I think the console wars will work themselves out.

I have to say that putting GameCube on top is quite a risk, for now, the system looks well and all, but the true deciding factor of whether it works itself on top is the games, take PSX and N64, PSX simply beat N64 even though with worse graphics, it had the broader selection of games, as compared to N64. Also most PSX games are ranged toward the 15,16+ age category, which is something Nintendo should have done, though mind you, one game that will pull GC forward is anything related to Pokemon All those kids who are in the craze, hehe. But really if Nintendo or other developers can pump out excellent games (namely RPGs) then yeah, GameCube will be sucessful, otherwise, it will be wavering accross the charts.

I still like my Dreamcast better than my PS2. I haven't been motivated to buy more than 1 PS2 game. I would buy DOA2 Hardcore, but the Dreamcast version looks better.

All the games I got for X-mas were Dreamcast. Jet Grind Radio is simply awesome!

As for the Gamecube...I'm sick of Nintendo pandering to only the 5-8 age range. The last game I bought for the N64 was Perfect Dark.

I don't really care to save happy flower land from the evil pointy hat witch all the time...

Um stefan, your figures are a little inflated. Miyamoto himself said that the max they would ever really push with the GC is 12-14 million polys, with all effects.

You sound disappointed with those numbers. With comparable texturing effects, the PS2 would be lucky to get such polygon throughput. I hope you understand what "all effects" means.

Agreed. To be honest, the PS2 will not be able to comete in terms of graphics capabilities with Xbox and GameCube. The technology in both is just much more elegant and technically superior.

you know... each successive generation had better graphics, at launch, than previous consoles. the nintendo was better than atari, genesis better than nintendo, snes better than genesis, psx and saturn better than snes, n64 better than psx, and dc better than n64. but the ps2 isn't better. kinda makes you wonder, is this as good as graphics get on the tv/game console? how about when we have hdtv? or is it just that the ps2 is an overrated pos?

I'm just disappointed that the Xbox console system won't have DVD! That sucks!

Umm..That is a good feature the Xbox does not have DVD! That made it as extra option to buy for it! It will save money from the actuall cost of the system! Nobody would actually buy the PS2 for DVD playback! Its a expensive feature and looks aweful, compared with standard DVD players...

Cheers..

This time nintedo has the console that can be easily programed for, not sony.

it wasnt that the n64 was hard to code for...its cartridge format and the liscensing fees nintendo charged for the cartridge and development for n64 caused it to lose out to playstation....

The N64 was incredibly hard to program for. It was the biggest turn off for developers. Second was the cost of the cartridge and third was the limited storage capacity of the cartridge.

AFAIK, with all effects on, EA Sports Canada (which is making SSX: SE for NGC), said in their dev. kit demos, they were pushing roughly 20 million pps.

Factor 5 stated that in their Star Wars game, they were pushing roughly 17 million with effects.

Xbox is the most powerful. Gamecube is second best. PS2 is third best. Ok, there is the writing on the wall.

Dreamcast, right now, is the most fun. Judge for your self.

sure, on paper....hardware specs are only as good as what your software engines/programmers can get out of them

BigPoppa, I am afraid your solely mistakened. Yes, Nintendo released the specs for NGC and said it can do 12-14M polys, remember that these are modest, realistic numbers not the inflated, theoretical, never-will-achieve specs Sony is posting. Take a look at the PS2 and DC side by side and you'll hardly notice a difference in looks. First gen games I understand, but for a system that is boasting 66M polys/sec, its pathetic launch graphics. DC could pull that off. Matter of fact, EA Canada recieved NGC dev kits and benchmarked the system at 17M polys/sec literally right out of the box. And this is on a first-generation dev kit with developers who literally have no experience on the system. X-Box I highly doubt will push 150M polys/sec or even 125M, maybe --just maybe-- 30M at the most.

Far as Im concerned Bill should shut and be happy with his million bazillion dollars take the XBox and shove it up his window(s) 98 times while he smokes cigars lit by 1000 dollar bills. Leave the console buisness alone and work on making Windows better gosh darn it!

I don't really care which system has the best graphic or which pushes the most polygons. What I do care about is which system has Squaresoft's support because that is where the fun is.

Geesh...lets not get into a Japanese vs. American vs. everyone else creation war. You can't really say a product of Sony is purely Japanese and a product of Intel is purely american so it is useless. Fact is Engineers for consumer electronics don't really care what country the companies are based in anymore and you will find US engineers working at Sony and Japanese engineers working in Intel and AMD as well as companies in other places in the world. Hell, even with cars Mercedes and Chrysler are owned by the same people, Ford owns Jag, GM owns Volvo and Saab... The Japanese car makers as well as BMW design and build cars in the US. That leaves really only VW (among the huge automakers..we leave out things like the Italian sports cars) I think that doesn't physically build cars (either Audi's, VW's, or Porsche's) in the US but they have plants in Mexico.

As far as consoles go (warning..I am not a console player for the most part, or a game player at all), I like the Dreamcast games that I have played, my roommate picked one up on sale for $120 about a month ago. As for load times, NHL2001 took a little while to load the games when I was playing a demo PS2 in the mall but once it was loaded there was absolutely no slow down. It have good visuals and played great (or so it seamed in the one game I played) but it didn't look to me like it was all that more impressive then the Dreamcast, although it might be more apparent seeing them side-by-side. It also didn't look any better then my PC considering I can run games at much higher resolutions.
