Xbox vs Playstation 2

What does everyone think of the new Micsoft gaming system called xbox. I mean technical specs on the systems seem to blow away the Sega Dreamcast, and seems to be a big improvement over the PS 2. From a developer point of view, its seems to be easier to develop games because it uses off the shelf parts and is based on direct x technology. Will the Xbox become the new champion in the Game console arena?

PS2 will be huge, no matter how many times you nintendo and MS fanboys want to deny it, it will be. Reason being, PS2 piracy is going to be huge, just like it was with the psx. it's true, it's damn true.

Whatever has the better games is going to be better. Doesn't matter if the Xbox had the NV20 with a P4, if a system has no good games it just isn't gonna sell.

I don't know. I think x box has a serious chance at being #1 or 2. PS2 will be out of the race IMO. It'll come down to the X-Box and the Game Cube.

Well even if the PS2 games aren't going to be pirated as much as the psx (the dvd games anyways) it will still be big cause the Sony hype machine is just to damn powerful.

Yeah, I'm sure I can go down to a computer store and buy a DVD ram drive. do you know how expencive DVD ram (or is it rom?) drives are?

I was under the impression that Sony's PS2 hype bit them in the ass, what with the more-than-minor supply and technical problems already.

Look, Nintendo slipped up with the N64. They know what they did wrong and they're not about to do it again. Everything the N64 was not, the GameCube is 10-fold.

BTW, the Hype will kill them at the end. I and many of my friends were disappointed at the PS2. It's a kick ass system, but the DC, a less powerful system is able to match or beat the PS2's graphics quality.

I'd like to think so. I definitely do think the Game Cube is more powerful then the PS2. The 128M polygons the xbox can do might be BS, so I don't know how powerful it really is. So I can't compare it to the x-box.

The bottom line in the coming console war is the bottom dollar. The question isn't who has the better games, or faster/more powerful system, rather who has the most money to oil the cogs or their respective hype machines. Thusly it seems quite obvious that microsoft and it's 500 million marketing dollars will completely and utterlly destroy all competition. However i think that the gamecube will meet with moderate succes due in part to it's strong brading, handheld connectivity and dedicated game machine status. The PS2 is still somewhat of a wildcard. It's bassiclly trying to do the same thing as the xbox, yet it does it worse. The question is whether or not it's lead in reaching the market place will have an effect or not. Plus it cannot be said that sony is a slouch when it comes to marketing, what with their status as a multinational uber-corporation. I think the key to their succes is connectivity and whether or not they can succesfully use their other properties (music, movies) to market their product.

Personnaly i'm still pulling for sega to hang on just a couple more years and hoping that indrema might surprise some people (myself included)

I was not impressed with ps2 at all and I think the hype was totally overblown and whack.
Simply put, MS has more resources then sony has, and will develop a better system and coding language for its games.
The game cube isnt even reality yet. And they have been talking about it for years, I have not seen a sign of it yet.
I dont doubt nintendos ability in making video games.
But look who your going against. If you think MS is a push over, then well, your a fool.
And how many people said that playstation 1 would not have software support, how many of them are putting their foot in their mouth.
Honestly, if you keep up with something, you have to reazlize, its just the infomation the company WANTS you to have.
