You just use your favorite nV overclocking utility and it'll be an Ultra minus the FlowFX cooler, because as Rollo pointed out, most 5800s hit Ultra speed no problem=500/1ghz. That Quadro FX2000 mod would be the shiznit thoughOriginally posted by: fibes
Can this card be softmodded to a 5800 Ultra?

9700np would beat it if you can find one for 110
You must not have seen the benchmarks I posted above cawchy. The 9700np beat it in half of them, which is not "beating it". (and the 9700np couldn't even run one bench due to driver issues) The 5800NU is roughly equivalent to a 9700np.
but doesn't the 5800 run all DX9 games in DX8 graphics while the 9700 runs DX9 games in DX9 graphics???

Good idea. You people are going to give Rollo a heart attack by making him defend his beloved 5800 constantly
I actually got mine a few days ago and the fan doesn't annoy me much, especially when it's running at the lower speeds.
edit: I don't really think these will be coming back in stock either. I was shocked when I found newegg had any at all before, seeing as they've been discontinued for so long.

I doubt the 5800 would get 9fps in DX8. My 5800Ultra ran Far Cry "ok".
And no, the 5800s are DX9 cards. They are slow in DX9 partially due to "weak" shaders, partially due to having to run in 32bit precision unless the game specifically has a 16/32 bit mixed mode running.
For me it was 10x7 med.Q with Farcry demos and 5800U. Never had a chance to try it on the full game though. I could use some AA&AF on both demos till I hit the caves in research, then it was like the first 6th grade dance, because that was the first time I ever experienced a strobe lightOriginally posted by: futuristicmonkey

Those scores are very low for a A643000+ 5800 system. What forcewares for board and card are you using? Remember to turn off vert synch? Clean drivers well in between?Originally posted by: SBGTF
Okay. I got the card installed tonight. I had no problems with the installation other than forgeting to remove the coverplate from the PCI slot it took up. Its definately a two slot card.
You gotta keep in mind I'm upgrading from a Radeon 64MB DDR VIVO. This was a card from before Radeon's had numbers like they do now. It was just a Radeon.
The card is only noticably loud when you first fire up the machine. Then it quiets down. I haven't done any gaming on it yet.
Aquamark increased from 7489 to 24317
3dMark03 increased from 227 to 2886
This is on an AMD 64 3000+ with 1GB of Kingston Value Ram PC3200. The board is an Epox 8KDA3J.
For $100 is certainly seems like a good buy at this point. I hope to be able to get 18 months out of this card.
