I'm running 2 sticks of 512mb Samsung original PC2700 @ 203fsb CAS 2.5-6-3-3 @ 2.6v rock stable on Abit IT7-MAX2 V2.0, Memtest86 tested over 7 hours with no errors. 845PE chipset seems to handle 2 sticks of memory at high speed better than 845E.

theres where the lifetime warranty jumps in right?

i think they guranteeees up to 2.7v or maybe even 2.8...but i am not sure how they can verify how high you have it at

Piece of cake. Get something pointy as a voltmeter probe and have at it. Micron is so kind as to identify the voltage pins on page 4 of this PDF file for unbuffered 184-pin DDR, and page 2 shows how to ID the pins. If you can get your mitts on a digital multimeter...

i was thinking the same thing.
i might havta keep both pairs around for testing on a granite bay

If you're looking for GB boards, I see several apparently in stock at Atacom.com. I put one of each in the cart and went to the brink of submitting an order (scary to see over $1000 worth of motherboards in the shopping cart! :Q) and it didn't say anything to the effect that they were OOS. Their Reseller Rating is a 6.88, could be worse I guess.

I put one of each granite bay board in the cart.....
:Q LOL

of course i have a digital volt meter~
now if i could just get my hands on a decent pair of eyes id be all set!

benchmarks have been posted.
i used my 2.26b so the results would be relivant for current cpus.

Those results are interesting...hey Thugs, can you do a comparison between the two at SPD? (pick a fsb...)

the difference between cas 2-3-3-7 and cas 2.5-3-3-7 is pretty much a joke.
the money maker is the 3rd setting (on this board anyways)
cas x-x-2-x is the one you want to get 1st.
the next best money maker is the 2nd setting, cas x-2-x-x.
once you have acheived at least 1 of the money makers, then cas 2-x-x-x is worth something.
the 4th setting is a big NO-NO on this board, stick with 7T above 400ddr.

ok, with all that being said ~ here's a link to the XMS 6 stick shootout using 2.6v and cas 2.5-3-3-7.

Thanks for the info! I'd just wondered how they compared when running at the timings they were designed for.

i havent set ram to "by spd" in so long i wouldnt know.

last i looked most boards read spd wrong ~ so even if you wanted to run there youd have to input it yourself.

and like i said ~ the difference between cas 2-3-3-7 and 2.5-3-3-7 is so small im not even sure we can measure it. using the cas 2.5-3-3-7 results from the 1st shootout should give you a pretty good idea of how they do, if not slightly worse.

this shootout is geared more (ok alot more) towards the "extreme" end of things.

I agree, I don't think there was any difference on my tests...I thought the spd timings were lower on the XMS3000 than that...yeah, a comparison test would be worthless..

What is the difference between the XMS 3000 part number CMX512A-3000C2PT and CMX512-3000C2? Is it just the heat spreader? And if so, why is the one with the platinum heatspreader cheaper than the one with a regular heatspreader?

Cool thanks. I think I'm going to get the cool platinum XMS.

Thug, have you done any tests on what the max the memory can do on default voltage?

edit: NM man, I saw the big ass thread. 2.6v is default for DDR right?
