Hi,

could you tell me what difference makes to this processor when I set frequency as 9 x 166 = 1500 MHz while default is 11 x 133 = 1466?

Is this setting secure or processor IS oveclocked (and I'm not talking about 40 MHz difference)??

Regards
Wojtek

My system:
EPoX 8RDA
Athlon XP 1700+ ( AXDA 1700 DLT3C 9390257270466 JIUHB 0310 WPMW - cool isn't it ?)
Thermaltake Aquarius II
2 x 256 DDR333

Yes, that is overclocking. (edit) and yes, that will void your warranty even though you haven't exceeded the stock speed by much.

by the way, that cpu was meant to be a xp2700, so you shouldnt have any problems whatso ever it getting it to those speeds.. and if im reading it right, the voltage on that particular cpu is only 1.5v (am i right?) so when overclocking it, take it to no more than 1.7v to 1.75v MAX and see how far it will go, but beware, you'll need VERY good memory.. Corsair XMS 3200 or even 3500 to get the best from it..

Yes, it's 1.5V I don't mean to oc memory and I'll stay with 166 x 2 and use 166 MHz for FSB to stay in sync.
I think I just stay with 166x 10 or 11 (1666 MHz or 1826 MHz) perhaps 12 (2000 MHz !).
I wonder if these setting are dangerous for my CPU AND motherboard.
Now with 1666MHz I have 42 Celsius under load and noise level is really acceptable so I'm not planning to go further.

Best Regards
Wojtek

from what i have heard, as long as things arent going over 60c you should be ok, but then saying that, depending on cooling, tower case used etc, its all relivent to how it will cool..
i have just purchased a thermaltake tower with 5 fans installed in the case, i think that this should be more than enough to try keep it cool.. but who knows!!
what motherboard have you got?
im aiming for 2ghz out of my chip with a 200fsb, so it should in theroy only need a 10 multiplier.. i just hope that my cpu and motherboard accept it!! anything higher is welcomed, but i doubt it will hurt it in such a way that it will blow it up or what have you..
just keep an eye to the temperatures and make sure if your board has a shut down temp, make sure its enabled and just keep it around about 60c.. im sure it will be fine besides, how long do you plan on keeping it ? i doubt in two years you will have the same hardware..
i would just go as high as you can on the default voltage if you wanted to.. i have read (where i got the idea of getting one of these great cpus) that they where able to get 2.1ghz out of it on standard voltage.. which was again 1.5v...
here have a read..

review on xp1700 with b core

i found it to be a great read.. hope you enjoy !!
