XP Freezes on install

My Rig:

Shuttle AK35GTR
AMD XP 1800+
Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm 60GB
16x Lite-on DVD
24/10/40 Lite-on CD-RW
ATI All in Wonder 7500

have XP installing on 20 GB partition on drive.

After copying files to the drive, XP restarts and begins installing windows. Consistently freezes. I have disabled Video Bios Shadowing, L2 ECC Cache, L2 Cache and L1 Cache...Computer runs ungodly slow...got to about 90% and froze again...(It took 2 hours to get there)

both the onboard sound and RAID are disabled in bios. Is this a Hardware issue, or is XP that temperamental...tried installing on different HD...no go

Any thoughts? Please Help!!! It's finals week! Thanks much!

do you have different ram? do you have multiple sticks of ram? sounds like ram to me ! Any blue screens during install or does it just frezze? Have you tried setting bios to default and just setting the right processor settings and ram timing?

Ram is 2x256 Centon I know for sure one works...it was used in a friends while his Crucial died.

my first few times during install (I've spent 2+ days on this) I would get the BSOD --Irq-not-less-or-equal (something like that) I've tried default settings...resetting the cmos and and not messing with anything....no luck

I have gotten it installed now....we're installing drivers now, but the xp freezes all the time again....so no cache at all and it's like molasses in Canadia on a January day.....painful even.....Maybe I'll try swapping out the ram for my Roomates new crucial....

I am almost positive I got the same error when I had some bad muskin ram same thing right during the installation of windows, I just sent it back and got a new one then installation went fine! I also checked the same stick in my second PC before the installation mishap and my PC frezzzze a couple of times, but I just brushed it off because I had my crucial in there before hand and had the ram timings maxed out!

same thing happened to me till i found my ram was bad using GoldMem and crucial sent me two new sticks. woohoo!

Wow,

Got it figured out, but not without scaring the poopie outta me!

Opened up the case to switch RAM and noticed that the fan for my Heatsink was unplugged! It must have gotten unplugged when we were messing around with the hard drive and such....plugged it back in and things worked great! Thanks for all the help!

I can't believe the fan wasn't plugged in and I didn't fry it....wow.
