I am an old fart and a newbie @ computing (started in '99). My problem is: I have built 2 computers w/ VIA chipset mobos, a ABIT VH6 (w/ Celeron/66mHz bus)for my dad and an ASUS A7V133 (w/ Duron and Athlon) for a nephew. After installing XP Home, both systems have, after 1 to 6 weeks of on and off operation, refused to boot and displayed this message "...missing or corrupted file C:\WINDOWS\system 32\configsys\ ..." and then HAl.dll, explore.exe or some other needful file to start Windows. Installing different RAM or Windows SP1 does not help. I replaced nephew's A7V133 w/ ECS K7S5A using all the other original hardware and haven't had any further probs.
The question is: Does this problem have anything to do w/ the VIA chipsets and/or the drivers that XP Home installs and how can I correct this ?!? Because replacing mobos and CPU's is kind of expensive!!!
P.S. One of the IT guys @ work is using the A7V133 under Win 2000 Pro and says it works great !!!
