XP Issue -- Mysterious Reboots

I recently installed XP Home on an older Compaq box (5716). The install went very smoothly, yet after using the box for an hour or two, I had a few "Mysterious Reboots". I checked the event viewer and found three error messages:
-The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\D.
-A parity error was detected on \Device\Ide\IdePort0
-AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO port address (0x71), which lies in the 0x70 - 0x71 protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

Any ideas?

I experienced this once... and it was a bios related issue. My mobo manufacturer put out an updated bios to fix the problem... and now i don't experience that ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO port address error.

Check and see if your mobo manufacturer put out a fix. MSI had one and all i had to do was flash the bios. Good luck and i hope it works

Firstly, please read the FAQ: Why does my computer reboot itself.

Secondly, as ineedsleep suggests, you should upgrade your motherboard BIOS to the latest version.

Regarding the BIOS update, I can't find any info via Compaq. Anyone have any idea where I can find BIOS updates for old Compaq boxes.
