XP Pro on a New MB

Okay... The BOIS on an Epox crapped out on last week an 8KTA3, most of the time it wouldn't go through the complete BOIS initiations, it would skip right to the final FF on the display L.E.D. Annoying. So I figure replacing a BIOS is going to take just as long as getting a new board and probably just as expensive as a new ECS K75SA. So I went with the new ECS. Now my issue is that XP doesn?t want to load. I get the blue screen telling me that it can?t boot any further to prevent damage to my computer. Nor does it want to repair the XP install. So, what?s the answer? Do a fresh install of XP and then reinstall all the software? That seems a little extreme! Ideas, suggestion, rants, all welcome! --Scott

Probably best to format HD and do a clean install of XP,that`s what I would do.

Really, that's the last thing I wanted to do today! Damn XP security issues.... I'd hoped I could just repair the installation.

The thing is, with a new mobo, there's a lot of stuff that gets changed. The best way to make sure that everything works properly is to do a clean install.

Did you try to go into Safe Mode during boot? If you can get it there you might have a chance. Otherwise, you are SOL. Been there, done that; now a total of 4 times and only sucessful once. Not good odds. Most likely you will have to reload. Sorry.

I did a format. So I suppose going from the KT133a to the SIS735 was too big a jump for XP. I wonder about going from a KT133a to the KT266a if XP wouldn't freak out going that route. Ideas? Thanks all!

Sorry I didn't read this post sooner. I went from a BX chipset to a sis645 in xp by using the boot disks. I selected install then repair. It worked well untill my airconditioner went out and scrambled XP. Now I can't get it to repair or install. the mouse and keyboard wont repond in XP,lol. They work in Win98. I used the boot disks to make a dual boot.

one way to try it is before you take out the old mobo, go into device manager and delete all the system devices, as well as all the ide controllers, and any other on board resources (such as sound). then power down, change the mobo and it _should_ redect everything for the new mobo...

Been there, done that. Results negative. Sometimes works OK in 98SE but I haven't had any luck doing that in XP. YMMV, of course.
