XP SPak 1 crash's computer

I have just built a computer with the following :

MSI 865PE NEO2
3.0 P4 Ht
1024 Samsung PC 3200
40 and 80 Gb HD's
dvd buner
wildcat vp880

It was working find until I installed S pak 1 and it would crash every couple of hours. I uninstalled it and its working fine now. I was wondering what of my hardware is incompatible with S pak 1. Anyone else have similar setup with the same probelm?

You're not alone...I've got something weird with this ATI Radeon 7500 card trying to work with SP1. So, I don't have SP1 installed. I do have all the hotfixes and critical updates installed.

Have you tried slipstreaming SP1 into your XP installation CD? Also, make sure you are installing the latest drivers for MB and video card.

I haven't thought about slip streaming SP1 and I don't really want to install Xp again. I know I have the latest drivers for my video card I am not so sure about the MB, i'll check on that. Thanks for the tip anyway.

just curious, u say everything was working fine without SP1, so why install it ?

You can call me the "no update guy", I update nothing so long as it works as it should. I keep up to date with Security fixes, but other than that, nothing. Everything for me in XP is working, so I've never even thought of installing SP1. If it ain't broke, you can't fix it

I go by this for apps/games too, if they do everything I want/need, I don't update them either.

If I come home with a new game that doesn't work, then yes, I start updating Video and Sound drivers to make it work, but if it works, nothing gets updated.

I'm guessing you just want everything working properly with the most up to date stuff, don't forget SP2 is in beta testing. So I wouldn't invest to much time in fixing this if you don't have too. You may be doing this all over again in a month or 2.

Well, I just think if everything works, leave it. I know it's not the answer your looking for, but this is how I use my puter.
